    Hi,
I passed all my exams and I'm supposed to be starting second year in October but I've been thinking about taking a year off. Is it possible to do this? and if so how do I go about it?

    thanks!;)

It is possible to do this. You will need to get a application for defferel and go and talk to your course chair about it. If they approve it and the registry you will then get the year off and go into second year the following year.

Check the registroy website for more information, they should have the form and info up there. Or go in and talk to your curse head or a lecturer or so.

You'll need your course director's approval first if you want to defer, so you'll need to have a fairly good reason. You can find the application for here: http://www.dcu.ie/registry/application_forms.shtml (they'll update it some time in August iirc). Once you have that filled in, just send it off to the registry, pay the deferral fee and that's it.

I'm currently deferring for a year and am due back in DCU at the end of September to complete my final year. I didn't have any problems getting the deferral approved, but that's because what I'm doing should help me in my degree (languages). I'd advise you to think carefully about why you want to defer and what you stand to gain from it. Your course head will also want to know this.
