    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1035315/Father-branded-pervert--photographing-children-public-park.html
He said: ‘The children wanted to go on an inflatable slide and I started taking photos of them having a good time. Moments later the woman running the slide told me to stop.

‘When I asked why, she told me I could not take pictures of other people’s children. I explained I was only interested in taking photos of my own children and pointed out that this was taking place in a public park.

‘I showed her the photos I had taken to prove my point. Then another woman joined in and said her child was also on the slide and did not want me taking pictures of the youngster.

‘I repeated that the only people being photographed were my own children. She said I could be taking pictures of just any child to put on the internet and called me a pervert. We immediately left the show.’

yes I know I know the daily mail is a heap of ****e but still its madness :pac:

See, his problem is, he tried to argue with the silly bints.

'Of course everyone with a camera is a paedo'.

Was in a playground taking pics of my two brothers three kids as they were messing about on the swings etc last month on one of the very rare occasions that the whole family are all in the same country at the same time. Was a lot of other families about as well, none of which were in any of our pictures, but didn't actually notice any attitude from anyone else there about us taking pictures of the kids.

Could have just been because we out numbered everyone else though I suppose, but I think some people are just determined to be offended by something at any opportunity.

Could have been because it was Ireland me thinks. The UK has gone seriously barmy regarding this kind of stuff.

Nah, this was in London. Although I'm not sure how many Daily Mail readers may have lived in that particular area as we were only passing through on the way to somewhere else.

Sad reflection of society to be honest, where the automatic assumption is that someone is "bad" rather than "good".

I previously worked in a ballet school in Dublin for two years and during the time I worked there we had to ban parents taking photos/using video recorders during childrens shows or during classes based on the legal advice we received from a solicitor.

We were told that photos or videos could only be made by a parent if they obtained permission from all the parents of any child involved (even if they were only in the background)

    Crazy world.

I do a lot of work with a kids football club, where my son plays

we have a cop as the child protection officer of the club, he checked into it, and by law if the pictures have names with them then you need permission, but if its just like them playing (like in a match) you dont. but the first time anyone objects i would just stop, its not worth the grief

Yeah, i saw that on GMTV the last couple of mornings, and i was really surprised that they tackled it in a really grown up and even-handed way.

They explained photographer's rights and pretty much called the woman who complained an interfering old busy-body, they even had Ester Rantzen weighing in and supporting the dad.

She even pointed out that calling someone a pervert or a pedophile is slander.

I remember going through an old photo album one day of pictures my dad had taken of me and my brother splashing in the bath together as babies. Obviously my dad is a deranged pedophile

Was that your child? Even if it wasnt, public place is fair game, so to speak, and good f***, pornograhic??? All photographers are up the creek so. Maybe you stirred something within the promoter?... Shouldnt say that but its becoming ridiculous now. Any pros out there, get another job. Any amateurs, take up knitting. This is a f***ed up precedent.

Firstly, If you were interested in taking photos for any other reason than photography I would imagine you would be hiding in the bushes with a long range zoom! I know someone this has happened to in Dublin! I bet if it was a woman taking photos there would be nothing said.

Secondly, Knitting as suggested has its bad side too! My wife knits and is part of a group called stitch n bitch. Last year on a sunny day they decided to go to Stephens Green to knit outside. The park warden called the gardai to get them removed because they were not allowed to knit in the park. Apparently a group of 5 women knitting is considered a crowd and should have got permission from the council to gather in the park! So I guess we can only go into the park in twos or threes!

    Is this for real ?

It is 100% true! I laughed so hard when she came home and told me. Groups of people cannot gather in the Green for any one purpose without getting permission first! It was considered to be an organised event because on a knitting forum it was mentioned and they suggested other people joined them.

Anyone who could see pornography in that should probably be on the sex offenders list. Did you report them?

St. Stephens Green is run by the OPW, not the council. One of the lads was chastised there for lewd behaviour - his girlfriend was sitting on his lap.

Can you find out where in law that is???

I've never seen anything of the like. The Irish statute books are publically searchable, and I can't find anything. Sounds like hype to me. Yes, it's protecting the child, but I certainly don't believe it's law.

My wife works in the Phoenix park so there probably is knitting done in the bushes already! We are expecting our first child at the mo so my wife is busy knitting and it will be nice for me to have a model for my photographs that can't run away or complain! It will all have to be done in the privacy of our own home! We really don't want to be labelled as social deviants for our unacceptable hobbies!

Soooo ... lets get this straight, you'll be taking pictures of your child ... IN PUBLIC ... WEARING HAND KNITTED CLOTHES ?!?!?!?!?

    Lord almighty.

I am P.R.O of a fairly large G.A.A club and it is our policy not to use names. We have never had a complaint, in fact parents think it is great that family who live abroad can log in and see ther nieces and nephews in action. I take photos of my kids regularly in public and would not stop if I was asked. Seems to me the British or Americans bring in a law and we rehash it nd make a mess. Time to get real here. P.C gone mad.

Paulw I think its more best practice than law.

We adopted a code of best practice in our club to steer us in the right direction, from the Irish sports council. The problems arose mainly as a result of what happened in some swimming.

I agree that it is a good practice, but stcstc stated in a previous post that he was informed that it was law.

It's a world gone PC mad.

I started reading this thread yesterday, and today, went down to the Rose Festival in St Annes Park, nice spot, and one of the events was Ballet Fusion, dancers of all ages.
I'd been taking snaps all day trying out my new camera, having good fiun with my little son. So we sat down to watch the dancers, some fantastic costumes, and a good spectacle, could have been a great chance to take some good shots, but because there were kids there (im guessing the youngest was maybe 4 or 5) and becaus ei had been reading this thread, there was no way i was going to feel comfortable taking pics in case some mother got offended like the one in the story.
Its such a shame that it is going in that direction.

Have they seen the Spanish students every summer? You'd need the riot squad and a fleet of busses to ship one group of them off to jail.

tempted now to get the 300mm on the film camera and go to the park... no film of course but do it just to wind people up and when they argue educate them..

however my class mate was questioned with the police as we had to photograph a mock crime scene for forensic imaging module and of course.. knifes with fake blood or whatever she used doesn't go down too well....

additionally my GF and I were talking as her nephew was over and I would feel unfcomfortable poking hm and cuddling him due to the social stigma.

If doing this in public, telling the local station beforehand might be useful - and put up some signs at the 'scene' so as to not worry the little old dears.
additionally my GF and I were talking as her nephew was over and I would feel unfcomfortable poking hm and cuddling him due to the social stigma.
Shout Declare "Tickles!", but don't start just yet - if he wants to take part, then he is empowered to make that decision. If he doesn't, then fair enough.

Just be careful when they gang up on you. :)

I declare tickles on her but she's tickle proof. I fed him 2 jelly babies and he seemed to like me :-)
