Where to get a gas fire?

Ok, so I need to get a gas fire for the fireplace. There is no chimney in the house, so I have 2 options: 1. Either I got for an apt style fire (which is glass fronted I think) or 2. Put a regular gas fire in and have an extractor fan installed to external wall.

So I really want to go with option 2 as I'm not a fan of the apt style gas fires. From what I can see they really blacken the paint-work on the walls (as well as doing god knows what to your lungs) and also they don't look as good as the regular gas fires.

Luckily my fireplace is on an external wall so this is an option. I priced it some time ago to get the job done and got a quote of about €1,250 but as it was a good while ago I would need to get quoted again.

Just wondering if anyone has done the same and if they have any advice on how to go about this. Was thinking of buying the fire separately as I have a family member in the trade and getting someone to fit it then.

Obviously, I'd like to do it as cost effectively as possible.

Ps. I'm in the Kildare area so any recommendations would be great.
