Would you get a cycling tattoo done?

Forgot to put this up as a fun poll after reading a Bike Snob NYC post a few weeks back. Anyone here got a bike related tattoo? Admittedly I have one (a 48 tooth chainring on my upper left arm) but I'm a bit nervous about posting the pic up for fear of general ridicule by the boardsies. It doesnt really catch peoples attention much anyway... because i have nine others... :o

Yes, I'm a cycling junkie and want it inked on me forever.

Probably, although maybe somewhere not so visible.
    10% 6 votes
Possibly, but maybe its taking it a bit too far.

Dont think so, tattooing is a bit naff these days isnt it?

No way, my body is a temple.

Only to cover up my old dodgy IRA ones.

If I get one, would I have to become a trendy fixed gear tosser too?

No, but I'm getting a portrait of Royston Brady done on my leg.

I picked the 'My body is a Temple' answer ... but I have to say this one would be my favourite. I already have the crank teeth embedded on both my legs ... that's good enough ' I am a cyclist' marks for me ...

Do post the photo of yours!!!

Post it up. More often than not I have oil from a chainring stuck on my leg; if I was to get one that would be it. I reckon I'd try to go pretty generic rather than having brand names on it (I just don't feel that way about my groupset like the Campy kids do.)

I had Bjarne Riis on my shoulder, but had it removed after he admitted taking EPO last year ;)

I already have a half sleeve and two on me forearms already, but I've never wanted a cycling tattoo to be fair..

I have two tattoo's one on each leg so not much room down there for them... not sure a Bike tattoo would be for me either

As others have said, the oily chainring portion on your leg is always a good one. I'd have no problem getting something done, but no idea what at this point -besides, there's too many others planned before I get round to bike-related!

I have toyed with the idea for a while now for the back of my lower calf. NOT bike related but something tribal perhaps. Still mulling over it.

    That Specialized tat is aweful.

How do you do this? I don't think I've ever had it and I saw so many people over the Ring of Kerry with that on their calves. Maybe I should try pushing my knees under the crossbar as I'm cycling or something.:pac:

And here's me thinking I'm the only person to *ever* think that'd be a good tat. :o

I'd go for the oily chainring, it'd be risky though, it could end up looking terrible.

There's quite a few around that I've seen, and done well it can be pretty good -positioning is everything though, cos there's nothing worse than an oily chainring tattoo in a different place to an actual oily chainring mark :)

irishmotorist -Freds can't get these marks, only real cyclists can :D

Wouldn’t get a tattoo but maybe some kind of cycling jewellery. Suppose that’s not quite the same though!
I am always getting that oily chain mark on my leg, its hard to wash off too :P

You like that one? I think its awful. But I wouldnt like anything that puts an advertising brand on me. It reminds me of the idiots you'd see walking around the Notting Hill Carnival with the Nike Swoosh tattooed on their chest.

    Oh alright then.

Yeah, I think it's looks good but without the specialized logo though.

Would you not want to 'fill' yours rather than leaving it white?

hmmm maybe not that, a braclet made from a chain might be better. doesn't seem to be a big selection online for that kind of stuff, probably too naff.

And there's me thinking that I should be concentrating on my diet and pedaling technique. Dirt is where it's at!

Absolutely -sure do you not know that it's the clothing and distinctive patterns of dirt that show who's serious and who isn't :

Page of Campagnolo tattoos - probably the only cycling brand where it _might_ be marginally acceptable.

LDB- I think that necklace looks pretty good, but they do bracelets as well.

Flickerx- looks good, but looks like a Biopace chainring that wouldn't work well on a fixie :)

    How about something like this:

Well I am suspecting that he doesn't actually have a real chainring embedded in his head. Just a guess :D

I love tattoos but I don't have any. Planning to get one next year and I'm taking my time looking at designs and deciding where to put it. Briefly flirted with a cycling related one and have seen some good designs, but most seem too closely linked to US bike culture. Some nice enough but not for me. MOst in this link are pretty awful.

Nah, more likely something tribal. Although I do like this old school tatt sported by Ewan McGregor

On yesterday's spin, myself and niceonetom were having a chat about how the cycling cult is made up on concentric circles and you've to move through each ring to get deeper into the cult .... lycra with shorts => lycra on its own=>racing=>shaving legs ...

But this has to be the bull's eye ... :) ... I'm sure someone will correct me fairly quickly ... :o

Not that I ever would get one.

But, if I had to, this would be the winner.

I am not sure that is a tattoo, looks like it is just oil on his leg.

    I got it here. http://www.bikecult.com/works/chainring.html
But your guess is as good as mine.
I found another site last night that showed a guy getting a smudged chain ring tattooed. Either that, or it was a chain grease tattoo....

Ah, the concentric circles. Thing is, you keep discovering new ones as time goes by. Chamois cream should definitely be on the list.

I was naked cos I had just been checking out fixedgeargallery.com on my laptop in my bedroom... fnarr fnarr

OK yeah its not the greatest piece of kit chainring in the world, but its a few years old, I got it when I was cycling a 100 punts piece of junk mtb around town and hated motorists, this was before i turned into a fixed gear tosser..

Here's one I got back in my couch potato days. While tattoos may still be fashionable it has suffered the fate of many tattoos in that the thing it depicts now looks appallingly unfashionable.
