I suppose anyone with a wm device has noticed already, but anyways:
after a bit of a delay opera today released a public beta version of opera mobile 9.5.
Currently it only works for windows mobile 5 and 6, but symbian support is promised.

I have played with the beta on an asus p550 aka vodafone 1520v with a nice 3.5'' screen: a joy to use with just your fingers... Scrolling, copy/paste, save page/image... They have disabled the playing of embedded video for now...some bugs meant the feature will appear at a later stage (n.b. It does work on the HTC Diamond, so no reason to fear it'll be scrapped permanently)!
It loads some tough pages I tried almost as fast as opera mini!!!

well, find out more at www.opera.com - time to give your stylus a rest!

UPDATE: just stumbled upon this quite serious bug:

My tytn's unaffected, but my treo 750's (work) ringtone gets switched off!!!!

Can't wait for the symbian version, I really need to be able to copy and paste text from web pages.

    Just downloaded the cab there.
It's a work in progress but the zooming and easy scrolling is cool.
Still the mobile view is probably preferable- it's impossible to make anything out on the desktop view.

e.g replying to posts is easier in the mobile view.

Apart from the cool zooming though i'm not mad about it.

E.g any time you want to select text/try to use internal scroll bars (for posts etc) you need to turn text selection on- a pain in the ar$e tbh..

You should really be able to do both anyway- ie select text AND use the screen to pan/scroll.
For all its faults you can do this in PocketIE (not the zooming thing of course).

Also can't see any option to see how much each page is downloading like on older versions.

Also any time you try to select text/try to use internal scroll bars (for posts etc) the screen just scrolls instead.

There was a way of disabling this in older versions- can't see it in this though.

hehehe...naughty man, haven't read Help, yet, have you? When you wanna select text to copy, you put your finger on it! A context menu opens, you click on "text selection on" and bang, you can highlight text without scrolling!!!!!!!!!!!!

there are really plenty of little extras/context menu options etc... Give it more time and trial and error ;)

agree about the desktop view though - I tried it on a 3.5 inch screen, and in landscape it's pretty good, but on my tytn's screen mobile view's the only pleasing option!

    Sorry...
Stop/refresh icon in topleft corner left of address bar... Or press screen and get context menu ;)
it's all there, just different from previous versions or other browsers! It's a totally new engine!

Look forward to this on symbian, I've been using opera on my S60 phones for a good while now, still waiting patiently for firefox mobile though!

Yeah i edited my post- i just saw the text selection option after i posted.
Also just saw the close/refresh button- i'm an idiot.
    I was too harsh.

I still maintain that things like posting to forums is a bit of work- having to constantly toggle back and forth between text selection "on" and "off".
And even in mobile view- the text box for posting for example is very narrow.

Getting the hang of the zooming and panning though- very cool.

Posting in desktop view is a bit dodgy - agreed!
But using it some more it really grows on me - zoom, panning, the ease of using every feature with your fingers, bookmarking, etc... Also downloaded some files to phone,: it definitely does it faster than PIE!!!

Do you have a problem with the onscreen keyboard? I ususally set text entry on my phone to pcm keyboard or the "diamond" qwerty, but when I start opera mobile it starts the default wm keyboard... So I have to switch back manually...??? Nothing major, but a slight nuisance, and no other apps on the phone does that...

yeah, could be interesting - although I hope it's nothing like MiniMo!!! And some early reviewers really found it very limited, plus: it seems to be aimed at touchscreen devices mainly (minimo was wm only! Hmmm????)
