Styling your beard

Well gents, I have a question...

What manner of "substance" is the preferred choice for styling one's beard? Years ago, when I first had my lovely long beard, I used hair wax (Brylcream brand I think it was) and the resulting spikey shapes that originated on and around my chin were the talk of the town :)

So I was thinking of getting the same again, but thought I should ask in the appropriate place if there are better recommended products.

That's something I have often wondered about myself, as my goatee tends to go off into too wirey points to each side once it reaches a certain length, rather than into a single one the way I'd have liked...

I once used a gel on my tash to spike it at the sides... I set fire to it lighting a cigar :p!

Ever since, it's left to it's own devices with an odd trim when it gets too full of beer/food!

This is the first I've ever heard/read of such a thing. Thought never really crossed my mind, hmmm I'm intrigued now!

Yeah DeadSkin, I'm the same. never even thought of using a styling product. I usually just shape it and keep it trimmed with a No3 Blade. Loving the idea of growing it out and making it all pointy!
One question though, would this not make you look quite goth?
