Cairo during Ramadan

    Evening all.

I have been given the chance to go to Cairo in September for work.
I can also bring my wife.
I've read that this will be during Ramadan.

Does anyone have any experience of Cairo during this time?
Should I jump on the oppertunity or run away screaming?

    Advice appreciated.

    Wavey.

I can't comment on Cairo specifically, but I was in Luxor during Ramadan last year and it made no difference to our holiday whatsoever.

I'm presuming you're not a Muslin so as such you're not expected to observe Ramadam but it's considerate not to flaunt eating and drinking in public before sundown. Of course no one will say anything to do if you eat during the day - they know you're a westerner.

The only thing I can think of is that public transport might be somewhat curtailed and sites closed - not the main ones though. Didn't realise that Ramadam was so early this year.

It will be an amazing time to be there... people may fast during the day but they make up for it at night. At times there will be a festival atmosphere not to be missed. Cairo's a fantastic city anyway that really comes to life after dark... don't worry about Ramadan at all.
