Ok, so following on from the Nancy Boys thread, there seems to be a lot of boardies who dont approve of this look, i was wandering did they ever look "cool" (or thought they did) when they were younger but would in fact be embarrased if they met their younger selves today?

me?? i was sooooo cool with my "cure" stuff and jesus and mary chain head!!! lol

I'm sure I used to think a flat-top haircut was cool.

Thankfully I have no photographic evidence.

Wore a few dodgy tracksuits when I was about ten or eleven too.

About ten years ago I plagued my poor mother for weeks until I got those Adidas rip-off tracksuit bottoms - the navy ones with the navy and white stripe down the side and f'ing huge Adidas motif. Pretty much thought I was the business in them. Oh how wrong I was. Shameful, shameful past :(

I'm told I'm cool all the time, I only ever wear jeans and Tshirts. I've never worn anything bad, and I always have the perfect comeback to everything. I look good, I feel good, I smell good. Women want me and men want to be me.

A nice tshirt and loose fitting jeans won't ever go out of fashion.

I was SOOOO cool in my black leggings, pushed down ankle socks (white) and ankle boot runners. Rock on 1994. Have never reached those heady heights of coolness ever since.

I once attended a school non uniform day dressed like Richey out of the Manics. I had skin tight white Levis and a t shirt with a spray painted pseudo-socialist logo on it and a blazer with a picture of Lenin on it. I guess I thought I was a bit of a cool interesting guy in those days. Then I grew up and became exposed to the truth.

Back when the "spikes" was cool, I thought I was untouchable. :( Also my brother had a leather jacket (the fonze) and I had a cheaper brown (probably vinyl :/) jacket, I was little fonze. Slip on shoes for my communion, white ala Michael Jackson!

Haha! That reminds me, I used to have a skinny leather tie. Funnily enough it would probably be cool again with a white fitted shirt and skinny jeans. However, the tie is long gone and my bodily proportions are not suitable for skinny jeans. I think I will have to settle for combats and a rugby shirt sorta look tbh.

    I'm the sh!t!

haha but nah recently I found out that my hair could be molded into different shapes using some sort of gelatinous liquid! Makes me feel so cool that I could even walk through town without having tomatoes thrown at me (much)! Amazing stuff! :D

haha but honestly, I seem to think I'm the **** after like 6 or 7 drinks because i lose ALL my inhibitions and can do whatever I feel like even approach a girl for a dance! Of course the next day I'm always like "I hope I wasn't being an ass last night to people" because I have often told the truth in my state of coolness! :D

    :cool::cool::cool::cool::cool::cool:

When I was 13 I had a fringe down to my chin and the rest of my head shaved. I gelled the fringe back over my shaved head. Everyone told me I looked like a knob but I just wouldn't listen.

What? It doesn't work like that at all. Things that I wore when I was a kid may have been cool then, but if I wore them now they wouldn't be (as I'm now an adult). Similarly, whatevers cool for kids these days they'll grow out of and it'll be uncool in their adulthood.

    Kids and adults are different.

Being of the same vintage, although not an out-and-out Cure-head, I'm with you there brother.

I looked back at an old photo album recently and I wasn't as bad looking as I thought at the time. It reminded me of that old song "I wish I knew what I know now, when I was younger".

These days I may be fat, aging and balding, but I wouldn't go back, not for a second. The 80's was a grim place to grow up, especially in Ireland. I worked through my nostalgic phase a few years ago and as a consequence realised that the best place to be is in the here and now. We truly do live in an age of technological wonder and personal opportunity, despite the recent downturns.

I remember one particular essay subject for the JC which was 'Youth is Wasted on the Young". They seriously expected 15 year olds to write two page essays on the subject; these days I could write a novel!
