    Dell Inspiron 1525.

All I can see is my own reflection. It's doing my head in.

It's got this Tru-Life on it that I said I didn't want but the sales guy said blah, blah, blah

    urgh.

I have a 1520(same thing, just older). Turn the screen brightness up if it's really that annoying, and don't use it outside.

tell me more. Will that really make a difference? It's driving me demented. What about when I watch dvds or anything am I going to see my image superimposed the entire time? This is a big purchase for me and I really want it to be right.

There is some distance selling European law that states something along the lines of "if you don't like it, you can return it within 7 days".

    Or something. :D

    Look into distance selling legislation.

(how about that for some solid advice)

Well, I;ve had mine for 10 months now, and I'll say this: you will see yourself(and little else) if you try to use it outside, so I've totally given up on that. Inside, I have problems if it's a sunny day and there's glare, but in that case I just plug it in and turn up the brightness, which usually fixes it, or just draw the curtains ;) the only other place I use it is in college, in the computer labs, which are in a basement, so no windows, no problems there.

Thats glossy-screen syndrome for you... Best to try before you buy.

Dell have return policies etc (which extend out beyong the 7 day distance selling regulation), so if you don't like it, get onto them asap, and get the matt screen.

I'm in my room with the curtains drawn. :(

Are all laptop screens like these this days? If so I guess I better buck up.

    I'm desperate for a trip I'm taking.

Pc world doesn't seem to have much. Someone recommended the compaq they have there but no Intel dual core which I want.

Using it outside would be helpful.

I mean it's a laptop. I should be able to use it anywhere?

    Help.

Can you get a matt screen on the inspiron? Don't see it as an option on the website.

Usually the consumer models have the glossy screen and the business models have the matte one. Have a look at the busines range, you might find something you like for decend money.

is the brightness borked on your laptop or something?
I've only ever noticed this at all if the screen is facing a window on a bright day.

New Laptop is actually a mirror!

You would want to be extremly careful with it, if you break it you could get seven years bad luck

    lol.

Have already tried adjusting brightness. Helps to some extent but any darkness on screen (i.e. in movies) and all I see is reflection. So watching a dvd in widescreen I see movie in middle then reflection all around. Even in the house with no direct light.

My 3 yr old Inspiron 6000 came with a matte screen as standard.
The gloss (Tru-Life) screen was a cost extra.
Surely there must be some sort of advantage to it if they charge for it!

Does anyone know the answer to that? What are the supposed advantages? I have now been reading up and have found many many complaints about these monitors, even on dell site.

The trubrite screens are meant to give a better picture quality. Darker blacks, brighter whites, better colour depth that sort of thing. Some of the ones I've seen are grand but others are, like the op says, like looking at a mirror. From polls I've seen people's opinions are 50/50 some love it others hate it.
