I am thinking about upgrading to an LCD monitor. My edited photos vary a lot between different monitors. They look fine on one monitor and over sharpened on others. My current CRT is about 10 years old, so it's not at its best anymore.
Other than a monitor with a BackLight (whoa! to expensive ) what brand would ye recommend or what LCD do you use and how do you find the quality of it.

Think you're best off figuring out a budget then taking money out for a calibration tool and buying a monitor with the rest

thats what you need to get perfect colours
    then find a monitor

Me.I use a cheap monitor which came with my cheap pc package but im happy with it and no complaints yet that other people see my pics totoally different

I recently got a new computer what came supplied with a Samsung SM226BW monitor. Its a 22" and very nice. It's supposed to be best buy for your money. Read up on a few reviews. You may find it cheaper than dabs as well but this is just alink to it.

I saw a Samsung 24" tn display for about £280 (exc shipping) on ebuyer.co.uk the other day - has had some great reviews

most new TFTs are pretty ok these days so it's down to how much mulah you got to spend?

generally speaking TN panels tend to have very fast response times in modern panels so are very good for gaming and movies etc.

For applications depending on colour, contrast ratios, colour gamut etc. the S-IPS panels are the best
    followed by S PVA panels

TFT Central is a good place to start research.

If i was getting a replacement panel and I might soon :)
i think i'd go for the Dell UltraSharp 2709W it's a bargin at €634.34 all in.
    :)

Been thinking about a new monitor two. I might get the Dell UltraSharp 2007FP 20.1-inch Black Flat Panel LCD Monitor (2007FP TCO99). A nice price at €530. Actually, I'd probably buy two, and use dual screen on the PC.

    Anyone have one?

I was looking at that one too Paul but i remember reading a couple of reviews that threw me off, can't remember where they were but they were enough to scratch it off the list.

Hazro should be releasing their new ones pretty soon, nice buy.

I went for the LG one on Komplett 24" €555, didn't like it too much at first but then i set it to RGB and got a calibration device and its brilliant.

Yeah, I read some Cnet reviews, saying that you can get either a S-IPS or a S-PVA model, and you won't know which until it's delivered. Both are used by Dell, badged under the 2007FP model.

    Hmmm.

I really want a monitor (20"), so I can buy two identical ones, and not cost too much. Around €1,000 really for both.

Or, maybe a larger single screen for that price, but I'd prefer to get S-IPS, if possible.

    Anyone got any other recommendations?

Ok, here's another question .... maybe more down to person choices.

Do people prefer a larger widescreen LCD display (26"/27") or would they prefer to dual screen?

    I might splash for a 26" widescreen S-IPS screen.

I have a pair of 24" on my mac pro, and it rocks, can have bridge or lightroom and photoshop open and be able to see both

Paul, if you want a good 26", have a look at the lacie ones, they display something like 95% or adobe RGB gamunt

they are not cheap but worth it

    I have 2 x 20" (S-IPS, 1600x1200) and I prefer them to a big one, it's more organized and I even tilt one of them 90 degrees
I can't see to replace them with just the one

I think I might go back to the idea of two monitors so.

Dell can't give me a straight answer which model I'd get if I ordered the 2007FP.

So, I went and ordered 2x HP LP2065 monitors. 20", S-IPS monitor. Total price, inc vat and delivery for €770.

I actually use this monitor in work, so I'm quite happy. 2 days for delivery. WOHOO.

This place is just so bad for my bank account.
