I don't think flying is an option at the moment. We were thinking of getting ferry Dublin-Holyhead or Rosslare-Pembroke then either driving or getting train or bus. Has anyone any recommendations as to what we do?

If you're ferrying, Rosslare to Pembroke or Fishguard is the better option, straight run down the M4 then to Bristol and it's not far from there to Bath.

Flights to Bristol are the best option if you opt for flying.

Look up the route on the AA routefinder for specifics.

Fly to Bristol, get the Bristol Flyer coach into Bristol Temple Meads and then train to Bath Spa.

Thanks for info. I think we will go to Wexford instead of Holyhead.

Have either of you been to Bath/Wiltshire? What would you recommend to do/see/stay? We will be in Corsham also.

Both the trains and driving options are simpler from Pembroke than from Holyhead.

I used to live in Bristol and would have often headed to Bath for getting drunk, cannot remember anything about where we used to go though and it was so long ago it will all have changed anyway. They do actually have the roman baths open again now which I think had been shut for decades at least until a couple of years ago.

The Therme Bath Spa is lovely - check out their website. Its great relaxing in their roof top pool!

There are lots of lovely pubs in Bath and you can of course drink Bath Ales mmmm. Lots of the usual high street shops and also a few local ones selling different items.

A visit to the Abbey is a good idea and there are always people milling around the area in front of there watching all the buskers.

As for travelling - as mentioned above if you can fly then thats the quickest option. Plane, airport flyer, train.

If not then I have driven from Holyhead to Bristol many times and it takes about 4.5 - 5hrs. I always drive in the ealry hours of the morning and as soon as I am off the Ferry at Holyhead its straight on to good roads all the way down. Over to the M6, M5 and on to Bath.

if u visit Bath, head to O'Neills pub, its a good spot for something to eat and is cheap price wise.

Bath is lovely for strolling around on, take the open bus top tour if the weather permits and you will get a great history about Bath.

    loads of photo ops also!
