Blow to Knock Airport

City Jet has just announced this morning(with just 1 week's notice) that it has changed its plans to commence flights from Knock Airport to Dublin from next week.

The airline won the contract from Aer Arann to operate the subsidised route for three years from July 22.

They blame fuel costs and logistical issues but this could leave Knock without a flight to Dublin..unless Aer Arann will continue on the route???? worth watching. Hopefully the government/regulator has got a compensation clause in the contract with Cityjet for this disgraceful act, ....but that would be competent

Knock is well able to look after itself. 20 years of quqlity defending have made it sturdy.

knock wasn't going to work ever since the 3million punt was allocated to them back in the day.

the airport was going to fall apart. the runway was going to be crap. all sorts of all complaints - we were dammed by the politicians, dammed by the media - why would be we need/want an airport.

Knock is used of all the ridicule being thrown upon it, and it has measures in place, that will prevent it ever going down.

Aer Arann on the other hand, was spawned by a primary school teacher who was fueled by a conversation he overheard, which "strove him to greater lengths". If him and his airline want to just drop contracts like that, then he's obviously a chicken shit. As bad and all as O'Leary is, he would never do anything like that, and although he treated the airport like **** for many years, he himself admits that he sees potential there.

O'Leary said just a couple of weeks back that regional airports like Knock should be closed down because we are too small a country for so many regional airports.
"...There is no future for Donegal; there's no future for Galway; there's absolutely no future for Waterford; there's no future for Sligo and Knock, despite the fact that we fly there, it is pretty flakey."
