Martial Arts - Northside

    Hey Guys,

I'm really interested in taking up some form of martial arts. I was thinking of kick-boxing or judo
but seeing as I'm an absolute beginner, I'd be open to anything. I used to be a Fitness Instructor
so my flexibility etc is quite good (rusty but good!).

I live on the Coast near Baldoyle so something Northside would be good. I'd love to start asap so
if anybody knows of any classes would you mind posting details?

    Thanks a million

Just backing up what Jon has posted.

BJJ REVOLUTION - first class facilities, great bunch of guys and highly recommended.

If your interested in Judo then I'd recommend you drop up to Portmarnock Judo, they train from 7pm t0 8:30pm Mondays and Thursdays in Portmarnock Leisure centre. This is a very, very good Judo club ***I train there myself*** :D

Kickboxing - checkout the lads at Mugendo in Chanel College in Coolock village. If memory serves me right they train seniors from 7pm to 9pm Mondays and Thursdays but I could be wrong on that.

    :P

    Does who have beginner's classes?.

Most clubs do, but Portmarnock Judo doesn't. However you won't be battered, its a tough session, the instruction is good, but for a complete beginner (if you can take a knock you'll be fine) I remember someone in Swords Judo once saying about a beginner in Portmarnock 'Jeeze a BEGINNER, all you'll learn there is how to bless yourself' :D

If your really interested in Judo and want first class instruction in a club where Randori (sparring) isn't too tough then drop down to John Douglas, Tommy O'Hara and Donal Tanney in the Daigokan.

Their in Donneycarney Leisure centre on Tuesday and Thurday nights from 8pm.

Mugendo kickboxing in Chanel do a complete beginners class.

cool, I'll check it out. I'm a slight size 8 and barely have enough strenght to open a door so I'd love to become really lean and strong and disciplined.

    Thanks for the information!

Ok, I'm not being a smart arse, but I'm assuming your a female so.

In which case I'll say drop along to Portmarnock Judo, there's a few lovely girls training out there, but do checkout the other's too.

Isnt the dagokhan closed? I think they now do classes in Le Cheile beside Donneycarney Chruch.

No, there was a new room built inside the leisure centre and thats where they're training now.

But to make certain I'll make a phone call later.

HI Beetlebum. I train in a MMA gym in Drumcondra. Although we do have active fighters the majority of our members are beginners. Take a look at our website for some training highlights and if you like what you see give us a shout and we can arrange some trial sessions - www.mmaireland.com

    Good Luck.

    Hey,

Nice one for that. I took a look at the website and would love to do some trial sessions. Let me know when you're free and we can arrange it.

I really appreciate that. Thanks everybody, you've all been so helpful!
It's time to get off my lazy (beetle) bum!

I never got around to making the phonecall, but I'll try remember today.

But in regards to BJJ Revolution (formerly SBGn), I was speaking with Andy Ryan and Willie Lyon's last night and they were telling me that they'll soon be giving Judo classes [more info from BJJ REVOLUTION].

Now there's to terrific instructors if someone wants to learn to fight Judo.
