Have been looking round here for the internet add-ons and not much feedback on them recently. I wanted to compare the differences make it easier to choose, with the networks doing improvements wonder who gets the better thumbs up. If its kept up-to-date is quick to decide. I'm sure their is a few things I missed out on so let me know, thanks. Also if should put in the conditions, starts from next billing cycle, 3days notice etc?

Had started something similiar myself here and here but there didn't seem to be a huge interest after a while.

I'm gonna take some of your info and add it to the page if you don't mind :)

No i wont hold it against ya :p
Maybe if we keep it up-to-date it will work. I think not overloading it either will help keep it simple, why i didnt put the terms etc

It's not a fair comparison without the terms.

meteor for example, with showing the price plans its available for, maybe better to give a link than showing the list, but ye, your right the devil is in the detail. If people can post improvements and take if from there

Maybe this would make a good sticky ?
I know I've found it very handy.

Ye i think the data add ons are so popular now something like this should work well as a sticky for comparison of networks and plans.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 641 ✭✭✭lanod2407

Agree that it would make a great sticky.

One request - can we standardise the "Additional Data" costs - e.g. state the cost for a common unit. O2 is 2c or 3c per MB, whereas Vodafone is 2c per KB ......... up to 1,000 times higher!!!!!!!!!!

How do I know that .............. 'cos my son accessed the web on his phone a while back and the bill came in at >€70 extra for a few MB download - that's how!!!!

I believe that all the phone tariffs should state additional data costs per MB ......... KB costs are irrelevant today .......... they'd have been relevant in 1984 :D:D:eek:

Additional usage - From €0.49 to €0.18 plan dependent

    3pay also have this.

I always thought 49c per MB was by far the cheapest but looks like o2 have stepped up their game, they used to be along the lines of vodafone with the cost per kb

EDIT: Sorry, without a data plan they are still way behind at 1c per kb. I think.

I think it would be important to clarify the difference between the different access points here. Users of some phones eg the S40 platform Nokias eg 6230i have to use isp.vodafone.ie for applications so some of the above pricing may lead to confusion

Ye, i would agree with you, Vodafone is by far the messiest option, i was trying to keep it basic but i will have a look at updating it tomorrow,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,191 ✭✭✭The_Hustler

I see you've done some 3 updating already, don't forget what I mentioned!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,340 CMod ✭✭✭✭Davy

Ye, i was focusing on the add-ons first, but i will add more of the out of plan charges, thats what you were referring to i gather? hopefully which die out sooner rather than later.

No, I know I talked about that but above that I just mentioned that the mobile broadband 1GB for €9.99 is also for 3pay, not just billpay.

It would be nice to mention the APN information for each provider too and what each allows you to access.

This is a summary from Vodafone customer care:
The 500mb add on is just for internet access on your phone. It only allows use of the live.vodafone.ie access point (so access is restricted to only the Vodafone live site, and it's affiliated websites).

For full internet or use your handset as a modem you can choose from one of the following add ons:

    Modest 15MB €10 p/m
    Medium 25MB €15 p/m
    Heavy 5GB €29.99 p/m

The 1GB offer is only for customers who are using the iphone.

Isn't it bizarre that there is a rate for a phone not sold by Vodafone Ireland?

The above is incorrect in my expierence - where did you get the info?

Vlodafone Live! APN works on ALL internet sites.
It may not work for some applications and phone as a modem as some ports are blocked.
It does work for some Java apps such as Gmail Google Mail and Google Maps.

The 1GB Offer is not for only people with the iPhone as I have it and use it with a HTC and Samsung. And as mentioned they dont even sell it

    That's perfect.
Do you use the hs.vodafone.ie, live.vodafone.ie or isp.vodafone.ie APN with that package?

    Hi,

Currently I use the Live APN for Gmail/GMaps and Opera Mini.
I am switching to the 1GB ISP APN so I can use my phone as a modem to see how that goes.

Just wondering why so few did the poll, only 20 out of 500 views, the more that do it the better the results will be.

Don't think you can get it any more now that three have updated their price plans but the X-Series Gold addon gives unlimited internet for only €14/month on top of any pay monthly contract...
For instance €19 for Relax 90 + €14 for unlimited internets.
Good deal in my opinion. :D

I've added the 1GB ISP option on voda but it's still pending. Have you had a chance to look at you bill to see that everything is being charged correctly since changing and that 1Gb really means 1GB?

    Cheers.

    # Usage is charged at 0.5c up to 99c or 168KB of usage
    # Price per MB after you have used your bundle is €5

    For Bill Pay €9.99 p/m for 500MB

    Yet O2 is 3c?????

There's an entry in our FAQ with Data Pricing that's being kept updated. It should all be up to date, I've clarified the €5/MB out of bundle costs with Vodafone bundle now.

It's still there in the Wireless Office Plus Data Bundles add ons. If you want it as a personal customer rather than as a business customer, ring them and ask for it.

exactly. Vodafone don't promote it because lots of people are happy with the 500mb but any user can get it added to their account.

Just from browsing the different sites, looks like 3 have the best deal. Best of both, then €10 for "unlimited" internet. Now if they only had a decent selection of phones.

Hello, getting an iphone and going to use it with Vodafone. Which is the best:

    "1Gb ISP Promo 15MB Individual Bundle €10.04"

    or

"Mobile Internet 500MB Add On Get 500 MB for the month -- ideal for frequent Internet and Vodafone live! users €9.99".

Can anyone tell me the difference between vodafone live v ISP? and can both be used for Tethering?

    Thanks

It is still there, you need to sign up for the 500MB Live and then switch over. Mine is switching this week, whenever my billing day is.

The Vodafone Live won't work with the iPhone without some changes to the software in the phone and unless you are an expert user I wouldn't recommend it. Best to use the ISP access point, it will give you everything you need including tethering
