Further to my recent (enough but can't find) thread on when the belt should be done on an Astra:

Has anybody replaced a timing belt on an Astra G recently, and if so (hint hint I'm looking at you kluivert), how much is it going to cost me with pumps etc included?:(

    Cheers guys!

It can be between 30 and 40k miles, depending on who you ask.

I can't remember the cost of the (spurious) kit - I think it was around the 150 mark; oe parts might not be that much more.

I'm at around 32k now, but want to get it done before 36k just in case. Probably sometime around october or november even if I haven't hit 36k.

I heard €700-€800 mentioned, which is 2/3 of a months salary so I'll kind of have to figure out what to be doing as regards putting it aside before I go back to college.

:D I thought I could feel my ears burning.

1.4 Astra revising timing belt interval from 60k to 40k miles.

Speak to Martin there in McChesney & Sons Opel in Clonibert Monaghan, he has done mind twice now for around 300-350e.

That includes a service as well, make you have to get the timing belt and water pump changed at the same time as the belt drives the water pump or something to that effect.

If Monaghan is too far of a drive then get your quote from Martin and ask your local garage (Liffey Valley) to match it, these two garages know each other and swap stock etc.

I got mine done about 10 months ago (before the engine seized up) by Tony King in Celbridge.

TB+Water Pump+Service for in between 3-400 also, can't remember the exact price, give them a ring and find out.

Water pump has to be done as the timing belt drives the pump. If the pump seizes it will snap the belt.

PM me and I might be able to dig out the name and contact number of an ex Opel dealer mechanic who now works for himself close to you.

My local place is part of the ICR group, so I wouldn't hold out too much hope on it being cheap considering they quoted me €100 plus vat for a set of 13" hubs for a Corsa previously and €230 + €80 labour for an AFM which I subsequently picked up for €95 and fitted myself in less than 10 mins.
