For all Joss Whedon fans, he's released a new project http://www.drhorrible.com/

It's a 13 minute video, the first of 3 to be released over the next few days.

Apparently it's something he done during the writers strike with a few actors who agreed to do it for free (Nathan Fillion for one)

    Only Joss.

    Only Joss Whedon.

Only Joss Whedon gets more work done during a writer's strike than before or after.

Very funny though. I know just how Dr. Horrible feels.

Act 1 & 2 are up now and Act 3 goes live tomorrow. They'll all be there until Sunday at midnight (I'm guessing midnight LA Time?) and then you'll have to wait for DVD release...check it out its HI-larious. ;)

It's great can't wait for act III! Nice to see him back on form.

Changed the title to reflect the actual production and I can't recommend it enough - gives support to how much of a genius Mr Whedon is!

Excellent performances from Neil Patrick Harris (from 'How I Met Your Mother') and Nathan Fillion (from 'Firefly' / 'Serenity'), fantastic musical pieces and som very witty dialogue.

Don't dismiss it because it's not on Television and is an internet-only production.. probably the most inventive and engrossing thing I've seen this Summer.

Act III will be released later today (Saturday) apparently.

    DO WATCH IT NOW!

listening to his commentaries on on angel and buffy, can a straight men love musical and dancing that much?

and if doing musicals is his dream job why doesn't he do them?

Sometimes people are layered like that.

Isn't that what he is doing?

rats - saw the start on friday, but was at work so couldn't give it undivided attention. it's now sunday night and there's, in theory, only a few hours left that it's up at the official site, and only iTunes in the States allows you to download it.

trouble is that the www.drhorrible.com site appears to be 'down'

It's quite possible that a cousin in America with his VCR wired up to his PC might be able to sort me out with a copy, but in the meantime, has anybody else had any difficulties getting to see this stuff in the last say, six hours or so?

Wow that was fantastic. Gotta love Joss Whedon: among the best entertainers of the moment.

Loved Cptn Hammer's song in the final act, and the evil horse character :D

    Also:
    The Hammer is my penis

    Grr Argh

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,193 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Third act was my least favourite of the three.. the second was the best - it had the most memorable lines ("the hammer is my penis!") and memorable songs ("Brand New Day").

Is there any scope for this to be expanded into anything else? I thought it was quite entertaining, it might make an interesting film/tv film/tv series, but probably not what with Dollhouse coming out... Either way, quite entertaining...

Watched this over the weekend - it's excellent.

I have been waiting for this since I first heard about it three weeks ago and I was not left disappointed. The songs were brilliant and the ending
the true birth of "Dr. Horrible", a super-villain origin story
, while not to everyone's taste seemed to be the only really logical way to end it IMO.

    Most enjoyable.

Have to say that Dr Horrible is quite possibly the greatest thing ever. I love musicals, Joss Whedon, Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion so you could say that it was heaven for me. The songs were all spot on and the acting was great all round. Shame that it was so short and that there were'nt more songs.

The DVD will have a singing commentary which soulds pretty cool. After watching the clips from Dollhouse I kinda wish that Whedon would scrap it and get to work on a full length Dr Horrible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,193 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Agreed.. a full-length Dr Horrible feature would be fantastic!

    Favourite line's / song's all?

Best lines (both by Captain Hammer):
    • "I hate the homeless....................... ness problem in this community!"
    • "The hammer is my penis!"
'Brand New Day' is my favourite song in the bunch.. but extremely tough to choose!

EDIT: Have all three acts in MP3 - if anyone is interested, I'll upload them to my webspace.

Is this true? If so, for a man of his extreme talent, it kind of bothers me that this has been his only output since 2005s Serenity (apart from his oft delayed comics). Even though he's currently working on Dollhouse, how secure can that be when Fox is attached?

Getting back to Dr. Horrible. It was quite good, the songs were genius, I loved Dr. Horribles sweaty side-kick and I was really surprised by Neil Patrick Harris's singing voice! I dont think it was QUITE as earth shatteringly amazing as everyone on the thread is making out though. A lot of the dialogue (in-between the songs) left me a lil cold, so I'm glad I caught it online cause I dont think it warrants a purchase on dvd.

But maybe I should just be grateful we're getting any Whedon at all these days.........

    Ooh would be grateful!
Surprisingly accomplished songs though! Usually not a fan of musicals but alot of the songs in this were very well composed and written little ditties.

Although hopefully the sequel will focus on Moist.

    Best. TV. Ever.

I've been watching it practically non stop and listening to the tunes...Loving it so much! Bring on the DVD with the extras!!!:D
Genius ending by the way. And although it took a few viewings to appreiciate fully I think it was the best.

Should have known though...who has a happy relationship in the Whedonverse?

Uh, that was just about the gheyest thing I've ever seen. I didn't think it wsa possible to 'top' R Kelly's absurd foray into musical soap, but this comes damn close.

I completely fail to see the point of Josh Whedon.

Bumpity-bump for this for 3 reasons!

    1) Dr Horrible won a well-deserved Emmy (acceptance of it below).

    2) 'Dr Horrible - Part II' is official. From TVGuide:
There will be a second Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Blog, Joss Whedon said in a Thursday conference call with reporters to promote Dollhouse. The main question, he says, is whether he does it “on a shoe string again” or goes bigger budget and “invites other people into the process.” Either way, he promises that it won’t affect the storyline.

    3) Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly has this to say about The Emmys ceremony being shown in the US tonight:
"Sources confirm to me exclusively that host Neil Patrick Harris will headline a Dr. Horrible-themed production number about midway through Sunday’s ceremony."

wierd treatment for these creative emmys, its hard to find info for it even on the emmy's own site

The Emmy scene was disappointing, I was expecting a musical number :(

It's on E! again tomorrow at 8pm, the scene was about an hour and a half in...

I watched it on YT....thought it was rather average compared to the Buffy episode, but damn!....the ending, Whedon and his penchant for
    killing likeable characters :(
