My girlfriend and I fly into Cancun next monday for the start of 6 weeks in Mexico and the surrounds. We really only intend on stying 1 night, 2 max in Cancun, after that we head to Isla Holbox. Just wondering if anyone has any experience of places to stay in these areas, hostels/campsites preferrably. Thanks.

When i was in Cancun i stayed in a place called villa playa blanca as far as i remember. It is about 10 mins outside the city. buses run most of the day and there are usually collectivos running to the city. It was cheap and the place was amazing for a hostel/B&B. Overlooked the ocean and had a pool. It's a quiet place though. The city or zona hotel is more expensive to stay in. But you can find cheap places under a tenner a night if you loo khard enough and book early.

I'd recommend isla mujeres though. There is a cheap hostel called poc na. It's an island off the coast of cancun and is so relaxed. The hostel has a bar on the beach and it was only something like a fiver a night. Although it was a few years ago.

There isn't really much on isla holbox. a lot of people go there to bird watch and fish. or just basically do nothing. there was a camp site there.
