    Check out this link - http://www.nikonsmallworld.com/gallery.php?grouping=year&year=2007

    Every year Nikon runs the "Nikon Small World" competition which showcases beautiful images taken using microscopes and various imaging techniques. Now I have an interest in this (it's my job), but since I started photography as a hobby this stuff really amazes me. The link above will bring you to the gallery from last year, where you can see some amazing shots at very high magnifications of a huge variety of different things.

    Paul.

    p.s. There is no equivalent competition for Canon. Nikon is an optics company that makes microscopes, lightographic steppers for semiconductor printing, and other high end optical equipment like this - Canon, on the other hand, make photocopiers. ;)

    Maybe there is a Canon Photocopying Competition every year, I don't know! :P

    As a nikon user of over 20 years, this made me smile :):D:D

    I work in the semi-conductor industry, and the fact that Nikon develop optics for the most extreme & exacting requirements of lithography, was a factor that made me choose a Nikon DSLR. It's not the only reason, but the quality is apparent.

    Oh, btw, I also have a Canon Pixma printer. Very happy with it!

    Meh, what would you rather have to defend your castle with, a microscope or a Cannon

    It's funny. I wasn't going to get drawn into this. Firstly, these are truly wonderful shots. But not Real Macro as the OP suggests in his post title. I'd say micro.....

    I can just see it now. Out in the field, forest, garden whatever, shooting macro with a Nikon microsope stuck to the camera. :rolleyes: Comical springs to mind.

    The only lense that delivers true macro IMHO is the Canon MP-E 65mm. Lifesize to x5 magnification with superior best in class glass. :) It is by far, head and shoulders above anything else produced by the other major DSLR manufacturers, including Nikon. Even the Diopters (250D & 500D) produced by Canon are widely envied/used by many a Nikon camera owner. Again, nothing like it produced by Nikon.......

    Maybe you should have posted this in the Microscope forum. LOL

    I could go on... But like I said I wasn't going to get drawn into this. ;)

    I also work in the semi-conductor industry - a Nikon tool is also used to check the macro and micro - one of the worst designed pieces of equipment I've ever seen and as for the ergo, most definately the worst, by far!! Obviously, gave no thought to their DSLRs also!! :P

    Thats a fact , those bloody Nikon steppers keep the Vendor engineers the busiest in the place .... a more unreliable piece of Junk is yet to grace the fab , still , good solid work outlook for the lads though , they will always be needed:D

    Im not surprised the Nikon small world thing is yearly , that would be about the annual output of one of those tools !!

    Thanks Dave, I had a bet on as to how long it would take a Canon shooter to come in here and stick their oar in :P Thanks for doing the necessary!

    p.s. Is this you???? :pac::pac::pac:

    I'll send you a PM - but if it is for your own use, you can buy good second hand ones on sites like www.labx.com Bear in mind a good microscope (like a Nikon CMZ-1500 stereoscope) will cost you about €20k, and thats without the CCD camera, budget another €8k for that for about a 6MP version...
