I presume this is much better for main stations than local stops, but at least its a start.

It's a bit confusing. If I pick, e.g. Carrick on Shannon, now, I get:
    Sligo 27 min
    Dublin 14:12 (scheduled time)
Dublin 16:27 (calculated based on current position of the vehicle)
Sligo 16:28 (calculated based on current position of the vehicle)

Either it's extremely advanced and is working out times for return trips which haven't started based on where the bus currently is on the outward leg, or it's a bit broken.

Also, to get anything beyond a small list of stations you have to go to click the advanced 'Look for a stop' button.

Great if it does work though.

You should pick what route number you want.

Not a bad start at all. I tried the text service as well and the response time was very quick (less than 30 seconds).

The only thing was that the text service gave the scheduled time, whereas the web service gives the "Calculated time based on the current position of the vehicle" as well.

    Tús maith.

Bus Eireann in customer care shocker.

How exactly do they track the buses? Are there GPS units on each bus, or is it an estimate based on time of departure?

So many times I have tried to get a Bus Eireann bus for it to arrive 45 minutes late. I will be interested to try this out in the real world.

They've been fitting GPS units to the buses for over a year now. I assume they communicate back over a radio network or mobile phone network.

It;s good that they have put the figure out and showing some action, however as we can see it's a trail and hopefully it will have a good interface, maybe a map! ;) but for now it looks like they are attempting to create a front end for digital signage displays to set a browser at full screen the Arrivals and departures of the various routes at that station.

the developer should set up a blog to gather some commonts ;)

There was talk when the project started that some stops along the road would have RTIS digital displays like a lot of real cities do on their urban routes.
