    Hey guys,

It's me again asking for some more help, lol..... I am just starting up my portfolio and I was putting the layout together, the only thing is that I am really lost on how to do this so that it looks the best it can. I have a lot of portrait photos and some action shots from the skaters the other week and a couple of animal shots, I was wondering if some one wouldn't mind helping me a bit with the layout, I have gone to photographers around the city and they just tell me to group everything together, that is good but I don't know how to put it together so that it catches maybe a clients eye if you know what I mean.

Any help would be great, :)
    Thank you

    Hi,

I was in the same boat recently applying for college. I bought an A3 white book and made some paper mounts in black to set off the photos. For photos that needed a white mount I covered the white page in a black a3 page and then added a white mount. Possibly not the most professional but it's all I could come up with.

What services are you trying to sell? (yeh I know photography) but to what 'clients'?

e.g. private portraiture work to individuals?

    corporate clients?

Is this a serious business or 'hoping to earn a few quid' ?

This will be private clients and is corporate clients are interested then yea to them as well, I am serious about my photography and I would like to set up my business properly and I know it will take time so I am going slow at this but my portfolio will be shown to any one that wants to hire my services,

Not sure what other people suggest but I would say a decent A3 portfolio folder with mounted pics (maybe A4 mounted on A3 card) (only your very best) showing different techniques, styles of photography...etc

as your experience increases you can include articles with photos published, web pages published with your photography..etc...etc within the portfolio.

might be worth offering your services to a few people free just to increase diversity of your portfolio with any parts you feel need strengthening

I'm not going to suggest you haven't a chance of making it work but I think you already realise it will be a damn hard challenge and one that will require a lot of perseverance (which you have indicated already you realise which is great)

    best of luck!!!

I'm going to be short and sweet here because I'm tired and gouged my finger with a blade earlier.

Don't settle for one portfolio, change it to suit your clients, have several different line ups you can use.

Group things, make it progressive, and let it suit your style.

If you DO have a set series of photographs, and you don't want to change, check out different photobook options... this will limit you in the long run though, imo.
