hi. does any one have a type of adapter like the one in the attached pic? was going to buy one on ebay but i noticed that all the connectors are female just as they are on the back of a vcr or dvd. shouldnt they be male? is it possible you could you use male connectors merely as extension leads to connect to end of svideo or rca connectors?

You need male to male RCA connection leads, similar to this one. Power City or any such place will have them.

another queestion. can you use rca on its own or do you have to use rca and svideo together in order for device to stream, and vice versa?

To capture, either the 3 rca connections or the svideo. I've used a Pinnacle device in the past, it had onboard processing so took the pressure off the pc, I connected it using just the 3 rca (phono) leads and used the software that came with the device to pull in the video.
Just as aside, I wasn't happy with that software for creating teh DVD's, I used Adobe Premier Elements instead.

i found and tried male to male rca cables (and later a 4 pin male to male s-video) on my dvd player to see would it stream a signal. i got no signal. just a static type picture like the one attached.

  • I'm considering buying one of these to record from my vcr. I need help however. There are two SCART slots on my vcr (an old philips). It doesn't say whether these SCARTS are input or output. If I buy an scart OUTPUT adaptor, a male to male rca and the EasyCap will it work?

If you have or can download a manual for your vcr it might say if there is an output scart slot or not. id imagine it should work for you but then again im having problems too with rca connection

http://www.peats.com/cgi-bin/catalog.cgi?view_product=1&id=22410&sid=11&cid=157&scid=333 get one of these then you can just try the scart sockets on the vcr one at a time (set the switch to output)
