is it a case that companies can pay their staff less under the smoke of a recession but charge clients the same price as before?

I won't profit recession or not. 10euro per hour can hardly get any worse. I may have to go back on the streets

well back on topic..... are companies just going to pay less when they are getting paid the same?

The dole office is gonna make a fortune out of the recession. They'll have people lining up down the street to get into the place.

how will they make money exactly?

There will be less money floating about for these companies to compete for though in many cases so no they won't profit from the recession. Once things have recovered and they takes ages to implement a restoration is wages in when theyll make money.

However, some places will do well. Off the top of my head, pawn shops, discount supermarkets (eg Lidl, Aldi), liquidators and baliffs will be doing well in these hard times.

Apparently a few of the auditors (that's KPMG etc) are beefing up their debt management sections etc.

bookies won't be too badly affected either as desperate men resort to desperate measures to stay afloat.

I'd imagine cheap / cost driving places like Aldi and Lidl will continue to thrive.
Consumers won't put up for high prices and will want to be watching their cents.

I will, as i plan to design and operate a series of suicide booths.

though if this were a real country i could just go to the top floor of a tall building and profit from peoples misery there, but no........

Sinn Fein will do well from it and the Labour Party will probably decide to go left wing again.

Pubs, people drinking their sorrows away. The bookies will do well too from people trying to make a quick but not easy Buck with their dole money.

Yeah, I reckon LIDL and ALDI are headed into a golden age alright. Accountants the like will probably do well too, and solicitors, cos in all likelihood some people have borrowed way too much and are going to end up in trouble over it.

Some who won't do so well are the banks that were literally handing out mortgages from 04 to 06. Not going to name names, but one in particular springs to mind. I'd say a lot of the people they loaned to are going to find it very tough if interest rates keep rising. :(

I know all about it mate ;). They really are in the ****s now. Did you know that some banks are now only giving 80% for First Time Buyers with the max with some banks 90%....? That means on average in DUblin for example, House = €350k means you'll need to get between €35k - €70k. Thats insane, people will be living with their parents for a few more years now it would seem.

I'll wait to see what Jim Corr has to say on the matter...
He is a solid bloke with his head firmly on his shoulders, clearly.

He was saying the opposite to what normal people are thinking. Normal people think about his hot sisters.

Actually, a lot of firms have laid of solicitors in the last few weeks. Some will profit but its looking very bad for the profession as a whole.

Its a good time for anyone to benefit. Wait a few more months, then buy a house that you can barely afford. Then sit back and watch the pension fund grow.

Yup, and one of the banks only doing 80% is the one who was indiscriminately handing out 100% mortgages!

I say just never move out, then when your rents snuff it, you'll have a house!
