I suffer from excess underarm and facial sweating. I have done for nearly 7 years now and im only in my early 20's. I've been to doctors and have tried all the usual things, anhydrol forte etc but to no avail.
Unfortunately, unlike many others with this condition, I suffer from body odour even though I shower alot.

I couldnt cope with this and ended up showering 3 or 4 times a day, for up to an hour each time. As a result I ended up suffering with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and have been seeing psyciatrists for about 3 years now but yet again to no avail as they have only put me on drugs after drugs and have totally ignored the original problem.

I've now stopped attending the psychiatrists cuz pumping me with drugs had no effects but bad ones, however Im severly depressed. I cant go out and do normal things. I cant maintain relationships and I cant go out and socialize with my friends.

I dont know what to expect to get off this, except maybe some suggestions from other sufferers?

I've been looking in to having botox treatments but these are quite expensive and dont last all that long. I have come across a new treatment carried out by the Dundrum Medical Cosmetic Clinic, called SmartLipo Laser Lipolysis and I was wondering if anyone had heard if this was any good?

I am sure you have been down this road but have you tried Sannex products, I know of one person who excessively sweated who was helped by their 'extra strong' product

    Hi urtearsdontfall,

I know how you feel, I’ve suffer(ed) with this from my early teen.

I know what it feels like to just want shrivel up and die because of it.

Did the doctors give you any indication why the Aluminium Chloride e.g. tricolour etc where not working?

I found the other aluminium chloride products unbearable (irritation, broken skin etc) until I tried Odaban.

There’s a sympathetic ear hear if you need to vent. :-)

Can you have surgery to cut of sweat ducts, I worked with a girl with a problem like that, don't know if it was the same thing but she sweated excessivly and she had sugery and it was successful.

    Hope this helps:)

    Hey OP,

Sorry to hear about your problem.

You've been to doctors you say so you probably got asked this already but, do you eat many carbs?

The reason I ask is that I find that the more carbs I eat the more I sweat and one time I went on a low carb diet before and didn't sweat at all during that period. I mean VERY little.

Maybe do some research on that. But beware of going off carbs altogether as your diet can suffer as a result.

Hi guys, thanks for listening, especially courageoussteve, im really sorry to hear u hav the same kinda problems too. While its good to know im not the only one suffering, its still not something id wish on someone.

The doctors dont seem to know why the aluminium chloride doesnt work, to be honest they dont seem to know all that much and im doing much of the research myself.

Its just so hard tho, cuz now i have full blown OCD on top of the excess sweating, so now i have both a mental n physical condition that leaves me upset n feeling like a social recluse.

As for the carbs idea, its defo something worth looking into n wont hurt to try.

    Hiya,

I think your right, the medical profession here dose't seem to see this as a real problem.
I'm not aware of any doctors who specialise in this here.
would you consider travelling to the UK to see a specialist?
It would be a bit more expensive but if it got this sorted it would be worth it.

Also this topic is a relatively frequent on PI
so have a look back at some previous posts,
hopefully you might find some nugets of info

Getting this fixed would be a huge help with the OCD.
I look back now and smile at how much it affected me,
You couldn't pay me to stand with in 3 feet of another person.
and as for stuff like buses etc.....(not forgetting about the girls)......oh f**king cringe! !
So keep going, there is light at the end of the tunnell

Just something pratical, would you consider joining a gym?
It would get you out of the house any everybody smells in the gym. :p:p

its not so common over here but injecting boxtox under your underarm will prevent sweating, its lasts for roughly 6 months, if it is very bad i suggest you try that, a friend of mine got it done and she hasnt looked back

    Urtearsdontfall,

You can get the botox done on the HSE free. I like you suffer from the underarm sweating and know exactly what your going through. I eventually told my GP I couldn't put up with it any longer, I tried every possible deoderant and self help thing going, none of them work. Luckily for me my GP told me a friend of hers just started offering the botox on the HSE free in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. She wrote a letter referring me to a consultant called Mr Cathal Kelly. I was offered the underarm botox or the operation to remove the sweat glands. I opted for the botox which is working but I don't think it's the answer for me and am really considering having the operation. So go to your GP and ask to be referred. I got my first appointment to see him in November 2007 and eventually had the botox done on 6th June last. Best of luck xx

I'm not sure about facial hyperhydrosis, but I know that Vascular surgeons can perform something called a sympathectomy for hyperhydrosis affecting the limbs. I've a feeling a similar operation can be done for the facial condition, but I'll check tomorrow.

Thank you for letting me know about that. I was back with my GP and all she could do was refer me to a dermatologist in St Vincents...again, cuz basically she didnt have a clue. But I'll go back to her n let her know about Beaumount n maybe something will get done.

Ya a sympathectomy operation could be very beneficial. The operation is definitely covered on the VHI not sure about HSE. Will stop swetting in the underarms, face and hands. Though compensatory swetting will occur in the rest of the body. It could also help your OCD as its operating on the sympathetic nerve.
