    Hi,

My Dad has his eye on a particular photo of portmarnock that he saw on Fickr and asked me to get him a big print of it. After reading around the Flickr site I think this use is allowed (assuming the photographer hasn't restricted the rights). The thing is that a lot of pics on flickr don't go to very big resolution on the largest size.

The pic in question is this one ...

    http://flickr.com/photos/irishjames/2552732064/

The largest size is 1024x685, which I assume would just about give a reasonable 5x7 :( Anyone have any experience in the etiquette involved here? Is it possible to contact the photographer to ask if a bigger version exists?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers,
    C

That picture is all rights reserved, so if you're honest you cant use it without the photographers permission, you need to contact him/her via flickrmail, and ask for permission. If its given maybe you can get a full resolution file for printing.

yikes your right, only just saw that now at the end of the large size. Its weird flickr don't make the license used clear on the main page of the pic. I'll join up (they really need to drop that yahooId requirement!) and drop him a mail.

If you asked me for an image, I'd get it printed for you & once you send me the fee, I'd post the print to you.
There isn't a hope in hell I'd allow you to have a hi-res image!
If I were you, I'd prepare to get the same response from most photographers.
