It's becoming one of my major annoyances these days, people - mostly tracksuit clad urban warriors - playing music from their phones on public transport. It's bad enough to subject people to loud music against their will (note: the Americans use this as a method of torture), but it's particularly bad when it's an annoying tinny sound emanating from a nokia. I've noticed the louder people play music in public the worse their taste in music is, yesterday I had to endure that umbrella waving courtesan riana numerous times and a spoof song about female police officers like it's this generations "Cop Killer". If you're going to put on an impromptu mobile disco then at least play something better than a badly thought out and vaguely misogynistic parody song.

I hate this, it always seems worse in the LUAS, 4 of 'em take up a section of the seats and have the phone blaring out the "chooens"...very annoying!

I am prone to playing Jeff Wayne's "War of the Worlds" or espically loud classical music back @ them (and on days where I feel especially Evil, I have some Abba). Especially if I am on the bus before them, and sitting @ the back. Its amazing to watch them try to figure out what to do say. Within 2-3 minutes they realise there puny phones are no match and turn their rubbish off and I put back in my head phones while grinning like a loon @ them.

Nah you just need to get on eof those high frequency tones which only teenagers and younger can hear.

When ever muppets come in to the shop I work in using their phone as a ghetto blaster, I tell them that their phone is ringing and if they don't turn it off upon request, they get banned for good and are fucked out on to the street.

it's a real pain on the ferry crossings here, anywhere between 23 to 55 minutes of listening to their poorly encoded, distorted ****e they call music.

I'm really hoping for the day one of the staff come over the intercom and announce that if they don't stop both they and their phone will be going overboard.

While i agree with the music playing loudly bit.Seems pretty ignorant to judge other peoples music tastes.Music has to be the most diverse medium for anyone seeing as you might like Westlife whilst i wouldn't but yet i would still respect your musical interests.Maybe if they had better encrypted music you mightn't mind as much ?????

have that tone myself, in my late 20's and i can hear it,

I remember it came up on a TV ad once. That tone was awful. Of course, noone else noticed it, even though I would consider my hearing only decent. *blames Ipods and discos for ruining kids hearing*

it is terrible, some one started playing it at work once (real mature), half the people in the office started looking around with a 'wtf is that look' on their face, the rest carried on none the wiser

would be surprised if the kids on the bus playing music have not had the same idea

No, they have ****e music. It is not opinion, or conjecture, i can prove it on an etch-a-sketch.

At least if it were better encoded it would sound roughly 10% less awful and tinny.

since these people are idiots .. and idiots don't know good music ...

Valid enough point but I normally just say something like "Lads, would you mind turning that off? Lots of other people on the bus don't need to hear it" and they do.

They are normally only kids and like all kids will just try and get away with whatever they allowed to get away with!
