A few Chorus analogue questions

My parents are still on Chorus Analogue for a number of reasons. My dad has a second tv in another room connected up to the main cable going to our main TV. It's linked up to the video recorder at the main TV so he can view tapes and analogue content in the other room.

Is this stealing to view it in another, second, room without paying extra? I think it would be with digital but we're not sure of the situation regarding analogue.

If we got digital would he be able to view it in another room like this and also view content from the DVR which we would probably get?

Also I was checking the UPC website and they are advertising analogue as €23.50 a month. However we're paying €80.97 every three months after VAT. There's a tenner in the difference. Why is this? Thanks for any help.

Not sure whether it's theft or not.

However, on the other points, you can get digital multi-room viewing for €20 on your main box and €8.50 on your additional box. DVR costs a €5 extra per box, and you can get a DVR for each room if you wish. However, please note that I don't think you can watch content from a DVR in one room in another room, unless you actually bring the box into the other room and connect it up.

As to the €80.97, when UPC bought Chorus, I believe they inherited a hodge-podge of networks and price points, so suspect it's some kind of legacy price. I'd suggest that if you're not going to go digital, ring into to UPC customer service and tell them you'll leave unless you are put on the €23.50 price point, that usually works.

You're right about this, the shagging bastards!:D Basically what the girl at customer service told me is because we were paying €26.99 with Chorus we're stuck at that. New customers only pay €23.50. I asked her what if I disconnect and reconnect and she said to contact sales! What a rip off....you'd think they'd lower the price after they took over and engender some sort of customer loyalty?

Do you mean analogue with a box or without one?

    Without.

Watching analogue cable in multiple rooms isn't stealing - well they don't care anyway. It would be unenforcable to charge extra since anyone can buy some co-ax and splitters, and are entitled to do whatever they like with the cabling within their own home.

abraxas01 is kinda correct about the DVR - it has no RF output of its own, so if you want to watch it anywhere else in the house you would have to get one of those wireless video sender yokes or an RF modulator of some sort - if you get a second SCART cable you can connect that to the VCR and use the RF out on that like your dad currently does (unless it's some ancient yoke with no AV inputs).

I don't think the UPC website says anything about those prices being for new customers only and it's a pretty weak response from them.

I would contact the National Consumer Agency www.consumerconnect.ie as Cable pricing isn't regulated by Comreg. However, it may be worth looking at it from a consumer law point of view.

You could also give the consumer association of Ireland a shout.

I don't think having a hodge-podge of legacy prices is acceptable.

UPC seem to hate existing customers. They do whatever they can to get new ones but they do as many little things as they can to ensure customers have a tough time. Don't take that BS, get on to them and demand they reduce your price or threaten to leave.
