Pixelated LCD screen on 40d during dark gig shots... wtf?

I was taking a few shots at a recent gig, and I'd use the lcd for some shots to help me focus properly. The screen looked horribly pixelated. As far as I can remember, this has never happened when there was light aplenty. Has this ever happened to anyone before?

The photos came out alright btw.

I seen this over on Photographyonthenet forum too.

    A few questions
    1: were you using RAW?
2: If you were was it set to RAW+Small JPG as it uses the JPG to preview
3: I have the auto rotate set to off as to use the whole screen when previewing

Also, check to make sure you have the latest firmware version for the 40D. The last firmware release had an update for the LCD display.

    I have the latest firmware.

I was shooting just raw. I pretty sure auto rotate has nothing to do with the pixellation.

Has this ever happened on your 40ds before though?

Were you scrolling through the shots particularly fast? Did it resolve if you kept on the same photo for a few seconds?

Were you using a fast or slow CF card?

    1. Nope. The screen was heavily pixellated during both live view and review.

    2. Nope.

    3. I use an extreme III

As I said, this has never happened before except for this dark indoor gig.

That is really really strange. Never seen or heard of it happen before tbh.

Is it back to normal now?

Sounds like it was a temporary problem concerning the file that outputs to the display, how many times has it happened? if its just the once the dont worry about it, the 3" canon screens are crap and cant be trusted for anything except composition.

Yes it's back to normal. I was really pissed off when I saw it happen because it's such a highly praised camera I thought it was invincible. I only bought it a few months ago after reading so much about it here n' there.

I know live view isn't really necessary but when I had the camera high up over my head It was pretty handy.

Gig photography is pretty good craic actually, it's a good challenge. After a few pints of the black stuff you'd be climbing all over the shop trying to get a decent pic.

I really hope that pixelly problem doesn't happen again!

The latest firmware does sod all help. I was given a 40D and was having really bad issues with the colours on the lcd which were very very bad.

It was so bad I gave it away as I couldnt/didnt want to use it!
