AFFLICTION:BANNED - Bravo Sunday 9pm

I think this has been mentioned in another thread but I thought it should be given it's own thread so the word spreads.
Bravo were offered the rights to show the whole event at late notice so there has been very little marketing/advertising (or none!!)

Bravo may have lost the rights to UFC but fair play to them for keeping the MMA flag flying.

So UFC Fight Night on Setanta and Affliction on Bravo........ Roll on the weekend!!!!

    I didn't know this, cheers
Fair play to Bravo alright if they can keep the rights and Affliction put on more shows it should be a winner for them
Alot of people would have never got to see UFC if it wasn't for Bravo
Just hope the viewer figures are good now
On a sidenote thats 2 cases of beer needed now :pac:

Excellent! Hadn't heard anything about this.

Now if we could somehow get all the UFC fighters to come fight for Affliction I could get away without having to buy setanta!

The Setanta pill is tough one to swallow eh?
Wasn't sure if Bravo were gonna throw in the MMA towel
after they lost the UFC......Fair play to them.

Lookin forward to seeing Babalu in action again.

Don't get me ranting, already pay for sky, had these events for free before, no interest in the rest of setanta programming, don't think I would stay up till 6am to watch these so may as well watch the repeats online

Guys, anyone got any idea when the repeat of UFC 87 is on? I had a quick check through and can't find it and definately won't be able to stay awake to watch it live, even with Anderson fighting:(

It's not 87, it's just called "UFC: Silva vs Irvin", in case you were looking for the numbers. Setanta's website says there's a replay on Setanta Sports 2 on Sunday at 9:05pm and Setanta Sports 1 on Monday at 7:05pm

It was scheduled on short notice, some tv guides probably aren't going to have it

after all the work bravo put into being the fight channel?
they played old highlight tapes of ufc for months beofre they playe any live events or the ultimate fighter, they also played those ultimate warrior type documentaries about the history of mma and the gracies, the original feuds and such

and they have tna pro wrestling as far as i know which goes out to the same demographic, no way they're just giving up on mma and thank god :P

I've no idea about here, but in the US TNA is watched mostly by over 50s at the moment and previously it was mainly under 18s. The UFC's always had the 18-34 demographic as its strongest

I wonder if there's any chance of Bravo picking up WEC? That would be great, the UFC have talked about getting it on tv here before as well

That would be amazing if Bravo snapped up WEC. Some quality fighters on the roster there.
Not mad impressed with the Affliction ring as opposed to the cage but sure I'll reserve judgement and see how the event pans out.

Guys make sure ya tune in, get your friends to tune in, I have multiroom, gonna tune in on both, all my friends who are watchin with me are gonna tune in anyway. Make sure the ratings are as high as possible to encourage Bravo to get more quality MMA. There are so many events out there that we dont get...EXC/Strikeforce, DREAM, WEC, WVR etc

True. There's been little or no pre-show advertising so it's really important that all MMA fans and previous UFC Bravo viewers tune in on Sunday nite so that they continue to show MMA events.

nice one mate i was going to look for a stream on the nite but ill wait till sunday

    War Fedor!!!

The only way that you'll affect Bravo's ratings is if you have one of the meters that checks what you're watching, and the official tv measurement company in Britain only checks about 5,000 tvs. So save the electricity on your second tv!

Cheers for that Fozzy! **** Setanta, the station that is, not O'Halpín the AFL star:) Won't get to see either of the repeats cause I want to watch Affliction Sunday night and I'll be training Monday. This sheet never ends, guess the solution is to get a Sky+ box:mad:

The funniest thing is the Dana set this up to **** with Afliction PPV buys...but Spike are rerunning the UFC show right as the "Banned" show ends. :pac:

No they're not. They've even changed the time that it will be shown on the west coast so that it clashes with Affliction. Usually they'll have Fight Nights start at 9pm on the east coast and then three hours later it will be shown on the west coast when it's 9pm there. But this time it'll shown live at 6pm on the west coast: http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=EventDetail.FightCard&eid=1485

Affliction is on at the same time: http://www.afflictionclothing.com/banned_july19/how_to_watch.php

Although Affliction will get a head start with a one hour show on FSN showing some of the undercard. If that's good then some people planning to watch UFC might decide to order Affliction instead

EDIT: Ah, I see, Spike are showing a replay of UFC after the live show. That could just be so that it'll air on the west coast at the usual time that people are used to

Bravo have now revealed that they WILL NOT be showing the affliction event now. There is a lot of speculation that Zuffa have put a clause on them and threatened legal action against them if they show the event.

It seems that the UFC are just plain bullys when it comes to MMA. Its never for the love of the sport. Im sure all fans want to see this event but all zuffa and the ufc see is money.like it wasn’t enough putting on a rival show on the same night. Greedy ****.

    Anyways im very disappointed.

You can say that they don't love MMA, but MMA wouldn't be anywhere near as popular as it is if it weren't for them

If it is in the contract that Bravo signed then they've got to play by those rules

But it all comes down to money and politics. They out weigh the fights big time. Im sure its down to contractual obligations but its such a shame. If setanta have the rights to the biggest mma organistation then you’d think that a bravo would at least be allowed to show this event.

"Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we will be unable to show Affliction: Banned this Sunday at 9pm. Not our decision, not theirs, but I can't say any more than that.
Please accept our sincerest apologies for the delay. We are hoping to show the event as soon as we can but know it's not ideal.
Rest assured, we'll keep you posted as to what's happening. Thank you for your patience and support."

This is the latest information from the Bravo Forum.

Man, I'm gutted. So much for the MMA weekend.

Hi, could you or someone else please tell me the best site to watch replays of the UFC online. I caught some of the UFC 86 fights at www.mmaroot.com but not all of them. Help please!!!! I already pay loads for NTL + Sky Sports and don't want to pay another €18 per month just for the UFC.

Try this, usually gives all the fights a day or two after the event:

That sucks donkey nuts, its not the same watching it at home on internet as it would be watching it in Redz.

As an aside, it sucks as a fan watching what Zuffa are doing, but as a buisness decision I cant hold it against them. Its unrealistic that some people expect them to roll over and die, as new entrants enter the industry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,252 ✭✭✭Evil_Clown

As with everyone I am gutted about the afffliction thing
If people don't want to stream they should use bit torrent and watch it in good quality on Sunday or Monday depending on when someone puts the torrent online and the speed of your broadband. If you have a media harddrive you can even watch it on your own tv, which is what I do;)

I think we can all understand it from a business point of view. Of course the UFC are gonna do their upmost to protect their business.

However after having it announced that Affliction was gonna be shown on Bravo, its a huge dissappointment for us guys that its now been pulled. We see little or no MMA on tv other than the UFC and its a pain in the arse having to watch it on the pc.

They do, it's a private party but all fans are welcome. Whenever it's been on details have been posted here. I've never gone myself but it sounds like a laugh

Ah well this sucks! But I can see why if there was a clause in the contract between Zuffa and the UFC that UFC would prevent Bravo showing it. That is just sound business so I think that everyone should take a step back from the UFC bashing. They are only doing what any other company in their position would do.

It is hilarious to hear people say that UFC don't care about MMA. TBH if there was no UFC it is unlikely that there would be any MMA on our screens at all!

The real idiots are Bravo who advertised something that they could not deliver. Any anger should be directed their way as they knew what clauses were in their contract with Zuffa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

Apparently Bravo announced on their forums recently that they'll be showing DREAM, but then the post got deleted. If they signed a contract with the UFC saying that they can never show MMA ever again then they're idiots! Although I suspect that it's something more like they can't air any MMA for three months after the UFC contract finishes or they can't air MMA at the same time that a UFC show is on another channel, something along those lines if it actually is the UFC preventing this show airing

I think I've got it worked out. The UFC aren't to blame: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/content_display/world/news/e3ib3b4f691bfdc20771a5c1cbeacdbd742
Canada's Fight Network has secured the exclusive rights to distribute "Affliction: Banned" -- mixed martial arts outfit Affliction's inaugural pay-per-view event -- in the Canadian, Australian, U.S. and British markets.

Affliction had already sold the rights to the show to a British channel, that's why Bravo can't show it

I expect you all to write a letter to Zuffa apologising!

I wouldn't think that The Fight Network will be airing it for at least a week, that seems to be the way they do it

Affliction have had to cut the prices of tickets because the event hasn't sold out. You can get $1000 seats for $585 now. I don't think Donald Trump helped matters at all by saying that the show's sold out for the last two weeks in every interview that he's done

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

Aleksander Emelianenko vs Paul Buentello is off, Aleks didn't meet the licensing requirements, whatever that might mean: http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/aleksander-emelianenko-buentello-bout-off-13725

That's one of the fights that I was looking forward to seeing

Everyone else made weight, Babulu was 201lbs for a 205lbs fight though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,126 ✭✭✭✭calex71

ahhhhh ffs this sucks i agree i hate watching mma on a stream, but got my laptop connected to the 26" tv and just got done watch king of the cage - body shot from last night best weekend ever for mma events, what surprised me about king of the cage was after being used to ufc rules was that a guy won a fight by kneeing an opponent in the hean while he was on his knees at 1st i was like DQ DQ shocked to see its legal in this one lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

    Gary Goodridge has replaced Aleks

I haven't got high hopes for this event now I've got to say. Almost all of the fights are very one-sided. Plus they had a number of production issues during the weigh-ins and it looked pretty amateurish (using a bathroom weighing scales, announcer getting fighters' names wrong, Belfort apparently puking on stage to make weight according to a report I read, the lighting was very bad and the camera they used to record it was zoomed out too far)

Still, Fedor and Barnett will more than make up for whatever else happens for me!

Fedor's looking real big, I can't remember his arms being this thick before:

    fedor-emelianenko.jpg

The weigh-in video's here: http://www.mma-core.com/videos/_Affliction__Banned_Weight_In__1_2_?vid=10000877&tid=107 So far I've seen "Savat" Young and Vitor "Belfrot"
