    Hi.
Just reading the thread about the lasers and the title made me laugh.
These "In Soviet Russia" jokes though- what's their origin.
I was reading of a Russian comedian called Yakov Smirnoff who told them.
They're dumb but they are funny.
Is it merely just another online meme?

More generally though what do you think are the attributes that make online memes online memes.
That Rickroll thing for example, why is that funny?

Marge: Lisa, you got a letter.
Lisa: It's from my pen-pal Anya! [reads]
Anya: [voice over] Dear Lisa, as I write this, I am very sad. Our president has been overthrown and
[voice changes to that of a man] replaced by the benevolent General Krull. All hail Krull and his glorious new regime! Sincerely, Little Girl.

    :D

Smirnoff voiced his character in King of the Hill I think.

    It's not.

    Why does anything become popular?

Make it seem cool and/or elitist.

All memes come from either 4Chan or something awful.
It's a law of the internet.

It was funny for about five minutes when it first started. Anyone still posting Rickrolls these days should have their fingers smashed and their faces bounced off the business end of a baseball bat for a few days.

    So fresh? A "new one"?

    NOT!
^now that's fresh. What you do is you say something which isn't true and then say NOT! afterwards. e.g. You're so pretty. NOT!

    Give it a try.

Anyone who calls another a newfag is definitely one themselves. The true old fags lurk and do not lower themselves by talking to new people.

But you're addressing a newfag in your post.

If the all your base one is the same as Im thinking of its not particularly new. There was even a version for Snakes on a Plane - "All your snakes are belong to us" I remember seeing the original "All you base are belong to us" years ago. Red V Blue did a bit on it too.
