Hi guys, i hope someone can help with this one, my mum who is a pensioner has bought a nokia 5110 from the uk to replace her old one which she had for many years( just got it yesterday), the phone is unlocked but no sim cards from any irish network will operate in the phone, has anyone any idea why, as i say it is unlocked so what other restriction could be on it.

hi dubman25, sister got it over there for her on e-bay, i have checked the phone myself and it states no phone restriction when i enter a code from a nokia code generator, also in the box was a form saying the phone is unlocked euro wide.
but for some reason it will not accept irish sim cards, could there be a second lock on it.
Is there anywhere in ireland to get these phones as she is very comfortable with this model

Does it accept any Irish sims? i.e. have you tried your sim and your sister's sim (assuming they are different networks to your mum)

not sure to be honest but what i would do is to go to the little stands you see in shopping centres that unlock phones ya no them???they are usually good.the little places normally sell bits n bobs 4 phones 2;)

Hi BrynW, have tried all network sims with no luck.

Hi dubman25, she`s living in sligo so thats not an option i`m afraid, no place i know of in town that offers that type of service.

what you've got sounds like a single band 1800Mhz handset, rather than a GSM 900 Mhz one. It might not actually be a 5110 but a 5146 or something that was on Orange or One2One / T-Mobile in the UK.

It happened to my parents a while back - the phone would only pick up the 1800Mhz band in the town and got no signal out in the country where it's pretty much 900Mhz. I had to get them a 6210 instead.

Hi Gekko, i have some experience with mobile phones, and when it says on the inside of the phone thats its a 5110 i take that as right, however you could be right with the other issue.
    thanks for the reply,
