Hoping someone can advise, Is it possible to record manually tuned channels on a Sky+ box? i.e UTV, ITV, BBC Three.

    You have 2 options
    1. Get a UK card
    2. Get a Freesat PVR when they come out.

Technically speaking it is possible however you would have to have the Freesat from Sky (not related to FREESAT from the BBC which is completely Free to Air) Freesat from Sky is FTV (Free to View the channels are encrypted), although the only British Terrestrial channels that are encrypted are Channel 4 and FIVE, Channel 4 is a part of the Irish Sky packages now too.

So if you want to record the likes of UTV etc. you need a Freesat from Sky card and pay Sky a subscription of (I’m not sure) but I think it is around £5 or £10/per month (British Pound Sterling) so between the difficulties of obtaining the Freesat from Sky card which "officially" are not available to the Republic of Ireland, although can be got through the black market, I know people who paid over €300 for one! eBay have cracked down on the "selling" of them (The card is always BSKYB's property). Although occasionally they are supplied as part of the deal with a new or 2nd hand Sky Digibox and eBay seem to tolerate this.

The trouble of paying the subscription with Irish details etc. would be difficult. Plus you'd also need a 2nd Sky+ box unless you'd be willing to swap cards constantly and the associated trouble that causes.

So as you can see it is technically possible but not at all worth it. I use a DVD recorder if I need to record something and remove my viewing card from the box while in Sky News active which upon exiting Sky News active will put the English EPG on your box with the free and subscription channels side by side making it easier to schedule programmes than through "Other Channels". I then record to DVD-RW, which I got a spindle of in Lidl for peanuts.

    have fun!
