    Lads,

Recently got a EVGA GeForce 9800GTX and wanted run the Sh*t out of Crysis and see how far my PC could push it.

My set up Intel core 2 extreme 2.93, 3G 800Mhz RAM, P975XBX motherboard. Running XP.

Anyway I can turn up all settings to high (very high is greyed out I assume Vista is needed for this). Running at 1920X1200 is fine, but if I even put anti aliasing upto 2X i'm getting (i guess) less than 10 FPS. And if I dare put it upto 16X, ha ha, the PC has a fit, runs at about 2 FPS it can't even draw past 20-30ft.

Is this where I need a second 9800GTX (even though I can't SLI with the motherboard I have). Would the SLI run it with AA no probs.

Crysis is a system killer. I don't think there's any setup available that can run at hi-res(1600+) with AA enabled and be playable...

    4870 crossfire , or 280/sli

find settings that make it playable.

    I had no problem with tri-sli 8800gtx's and a Q6600 at 3.8ghz at 1680*1050 with 4xAA and 4xAF.

A single 9800gtx byits self isnt that powerfull, it was only a stopgap untill the 260/280 came out.

Try newer drivers, or even google what drivers people are using to get the best performance

Any benchmarks for 1680x1050 or 1920x1200?

I had 8800GTS 512mb SLi and Crysis was still pretty crappy at 1680x1050 all high, had to turn one or two things to medium to get 40-60fps......I believe that a card can only run a game as well as it's lowest FPS throughout, no point playing a game and being immersed in a beautiful indoor level at 60FPS then suddenly plunging to a choppy, jumping 15fps in some outdoor sections, totally ruining the atmosphere....

I found 1680x1050 DX9 'High' with PP and shadows on Medium, no aa/af, to give me the best experience, consistently smooth even in very intensive situations - and 8800GTS 512mb Sli is miles faster then a 9800GTX.

I now have 8800GS Sli, running COD4 at 1920x1200 max settings with AA/AF no problem, Crysis at those same settings = about 1-2fps, literally.

    Welcome to Crysis!

With a Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz single HD4870 i can run Crysis with the following settings @ 1920x1200 and get a steady 30+ fps. Rarely goes under 30fps and is very playable

    59573.JPG

Lower settings in this order until you find whats playable:
Post Processing (will give you a big jump in frame rates, not that noticable visually)
Motion Blur (gives you stutters when getting shot at, can make it unplayable)
Objects Quality (doesn't make a huge difference graphically)
Shaders Quality (another huge jump in fps, but makes a good difference visually)
Shadows Quality (same as shadows, huge jump in fps, good difference)

can you try the BTtech settings up there? 1280x1024 2xaa MAX and see what kind of Fps you get?

also does the jump from 1680x1050 to 1920 affect it allot?
what an animal of a card...

Tried those settings yesterday, 22-25fps, impossible to play on, definitely cant enable aa at all. I wonder does only having PCIe 1.1 as opposed to PCIe 2.0 make a difference? With current cards there shouldn't be any difference (or very minor at best) simply because current cards do not require the huge bandwidth PCI-E 2.0 slot can provide.

I personally think the benchmark is false. Also I've found that getting a good benchmark in Crysis is fine, but playing at those settings is a completely different story

    Edit: I'll run it now

cool , looks like the benchmark is a little forgiving...

Ran it in a loop 3 times to get average as it always runs better on second run.

    Incredible scores Pog.

    E8400 @ 3.60ghz, 4gig ram, 8800gtx @ 620/1030

    Got me

    1280x1024 very high, no AA
    Gtx 20.8fps
    Gtx Sli 26.4fps

    That 4870 is smoking

Edit: That loop demo is of course misleading, Crysis ran totally smooth on above rig in Sli.
Its a worst case scenario demo, though in the later levels it does become unplayable at times

I've a second 4870 comin from the states next month, we'll see what Crossfire gets :D

Although I might just hold out for the X2 and sell this card

you shouldnt be playing Crysis with Anti-Aliasing from the menu.

The problem with Crysis is the foliage, the leaves on the bushes and trees look awful and the Anti Aliasing from the menu doesnt affect them at all, so you take a big hit in your FPS and get virtually no improvement in picture quality.

What you do is, turn off AA in the menu and use a special type of AA called Edge AA. This DOES work on the trees and distant objects and only has a small performance hit.

to enable it, use the tilde ~ key to open the console, and type
    con_restricted=0

This unlocks the console, so then type
    r_UseEdgeAA=2

It makes a big difference. It isnt compatible with normal AA so you have to choose one or the other, but its better in my opinion and wont kill ure fps. You have to do it every time you load up Crysis or you can enter the commands into the Crysis config file to make sure its enabled everytime u load it up.

This is a common misconception that the later levels are "more graphically intensive" than the earlier levels. What happens is, people sit down for a few hours and play through the game. By the time they hit the later part of the game, the levels are stuttering all over the place. The problem is actually a very severe memory leak with the game. Its been patched, but the problem still exists. A good idea is to restart your machine every 2 levels or so. It usually eliminates the stuttering. Ofcourse, there are parts of the alien ship level that, while being stunning, are a bit "chuggy". Not alot we can do about that.

Restart every 2 levels... Nice job on the Testing before release... muppets.
