Panic Attacks and Disorientation

    hey does anybody else feel like this when u get one or are about to get one ???

    eyes feel weird like lightheaded , always stretching hoping that u will do something right to get rid of it ?????????

    tightness in throat , un easy ????

    shallow breathing ?????????????????????

    Sounds about right to me. There are many different symptoms though and we all experience our own unique ones.

    There are two ways you can develop a panic disorder: either through negative thinking, or sleep deprivation. For me, it was the latter, but I thought it was the former. It wasn't until I fell asleep at 11pm on April 21st of this year and woke up the next morning naturally at 7am like a completely new person that I realised the culprit. After six years of anxiety, consequent depression, agoraphobia and social phobia, I realised that all I actually needed was a decent nights sleep.

    I woke up that morning and cried. Since April up until about two weeks ago, I was the complete opposite person to the one I had been for the prior six years. It was as if my mind woke up from a murky slumber, as if a hazy veil had been lifted...then I get an email from college one evening telling me that the deadline for my assignments were due in four days. So, I stayed up all night on the first night, then on the second and third I stayed until 4am doing them. On the fourth day, completely exaughsted, I re-checked the email just to make sure I was abosolutely correct with the date...they werent due for another month. Stupid, I know. My own idiotic fault I'm well aware...

    The point is, I'm now back the way I was, and if I dont get my sleep back together the **VAST** progress I've made within those short months will be lost and my life will fall apart once again...cant believe this is after happening again...

    Yeah i have this problem

    It actualy makes me vomit really badly i really hurt my throat for a while i couldnt talk to well i think the choking feeling and the nauzia in my stumic is the worst part i do be so paronoid about being sick when i go places or eating with other people.

    well i know mine is 100 % related to negative thinking , the longer i left it the harder it has become , ie a very bad habit that is so hard to shift

    Sounds absolutely spot on. I've had them all my life but they are few and far between now in my life..very few and far between but they are a horrible sensation so you have all my empathy on that front :(

    Mine were made worse because I was so young and used to think I was going to suffocate or something and focusing on them made it worse. Eventually I learned how to control my response to them better and it's not as negative. I still hate them because I know they're all in my head in my case and no-one can help me stop one when I get one.

    Oddly I found anything cold helped like if you open a window to get fresh air or if there's a cold room in your house. I dunno why but it might help :)

    Panic attacks are very common now-a-days in fact a lot of heart attacks that are brought to the hospital are really panic attacks. The can take many forms, can come on at any time without triggers. Lucky they are easily treatable.

    Panic attacks are treatable, the most effective way I have found is Analytical Hypnotherapy, its design is to find and remove the root cause of the problem. When that is removed the panic attacks are no longer. Anxiety causes symptoms, in this panic attacks, it related to cause and effect. There is other methods available but the most common in Ireland would be this form. And by the definition of easy I mean 8 to 10, 50 min session, when you think about people suffering for years, 10 hours or less is consider easy is it not. Facts are facts and to deny them because of the insufficiency of one's own knowledge, is not a valid argument.

    No need for comments like this tbh. Panic attacks are treatable. It may be more difficult for some people but panic attacks are absolutely treatable if you take the right approach. Less of the aggression thanks.

    There's a great self-help book called "Panic Attacks Workbook" by David Carbonell :) (who's also got a website here: www.anxietycoach.com). It is recommended though that you work through this or other self-help books with the help of a psychologist, if possible. It can be a lengthy process and take a lot of work, but as LadyJ said, panic disorder and agoraphobia are treatable.

    I don't think there is any more proof of this than of psychoanalysis and this is a brief form of psychoanalysis using hypnosis. it may well work but not for the reason given as there is no way to prove that the found cause is real or not

    I just posted about this on another thread. I recently went for a series of hypnotherapy sessions, didn't do a thing. I've had panic attacks for a long time and found the sessions to be utterly useless. The therapist was very convinced about these 'energy therapies' and the enormous difference they would make. I gave it a fair shot - 3 sessions now at great expense - and I'm as bad as ever. Quite disappointing I must say. Maybe panic attacks are easily treatable for some, most certainly not for me :(

    Me neither. One fella I was getting the hypnotherapy and just general talking about it to said I thought to much about everything and over analysed the smallest of things. He said thats not a bad trait for a person but its not the best when your questioning every aspect of the methods people are using to help me overcome me faults. Only thing that helps me is to go and get a feed of cans or stay in the pub until me money runs out. Thats only gonna help me for the time Im drunk obviously So I just start all over again the next day grrrrr

    bad idea lead to drink problem.

    And when all the money is gone what do you think the publican will say if you want a drink to block anxiety and you have no money? Will he give you a free drink as you have given him all your money?
