Apartments in Rome

Travelling to Rome in October with extended family. Am thinking it will be cheaper (and nicer) to rent an apartment for the long weekend rather than book 3 hotel rooms. We would need 3 bed somewhere central would be ideal in a reasonably safe neighbourhood. I've found a few good websites but if anyone has any recommendations that would be great.

We found a really nice, central, apartment on www.sleepinitaly.com. It was just a 2 bed though, but there seems to be a good selection on the site.
Instead of looking through the list, I just emailed the site and asked which were available on the dates we wanted (instead of asking one by one and getting disappointed), then looked at the locations and narrowed it down that way. It's worthwhile getting something central. We were able to walk everywhere.

I don't know about exact apartments but I rented an apt with this crowd last month in Rome and found them completely easy and hassle free to deal with - http://www.rentalinrome.com/

We rented in Trastavere and I couldn't recommend that area highly enough - brilliant restaurants and all within walking distance and the area seemed as safe as houses..
