Probably better off buying them online.

Harrington on holdem is good.Hellmuth and Caro both have books on tells which are decent imo.

Depends on what you're looking for and how advanced/basic a book you need.

    There's a good selection here:
    http://www.twoplustwostore.com/twoplustwo/page.php?page=Catalog&type=Category&ID=11

There's a huge choice on Amazon. Reasonable prices too.

I'd recommend Harrington as well. Very good.

I've read The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky as well. It's very good also but was not written specifically for nl holdem. There's hand examples in there from every form of poker e.g. stud, draw, razz etc......

Gus Hansen's book about him winning the Aussie Millions is a good read. It's interesting to see how he plays the game but there's not a whole lot of theory or strategy in it tbh.

I've also read The Poker Tournament Formula by Arnold Snyder. It's aimed at fast tournaments & how you should change your game based on how fast the blinds will increase. It's ok but not great. I'd definitely buy Harrington's books before this.

    Anyone read this?
The Poker Mindset: Essential Attitudes for Poker Success

It's about poker psychology & emotional control. Dealing with tilt, downswings, badbeats etc....

It's a part of my game that needs improvement.

everytime this sort of post comes up I bang out this classic ... http://www.amazon.com/World-Poker-Tour-TM-Making/dp/006076306X ... how to win a wpt by erick lindgren... basic summary:

    Chapter 1: Bet
Chapter 2: If in doubt, bet.
Chapter 3: So you're facing a raise, why not re-raise?
Chapter 4: This guy doesn't get it, he's re-re-raised me, so I'll just go all in
Chapter 5: Congratulations, you've made the final table, now what?
    Chapter 6: Bet... alot!!
Chapter 7: What to do after you've won a WPT

T'is a good book if you like aggressive poker. Might not be great if you actually want to be good... but he's won gazillions so?

i liked phil gordon's "little green book" and "little blue book". very readable, deal with almost every situation you can think of. mostly based on full ring mtt strategy, and each "lesson" illustrated with a hand he's played.

very good read for the beginner/casual player.

didn't notice them in the thread but harrington on holdem vol 1 and 2 are very good for getting started in tournament play

Phil Gordons little green book for starting off and found his little blue book very useful to get you to start thinking bout your play more

One thing about the Harrington books, they're more suited to the live, slow tournaments with 30 minute or longer blind levels etc. A lot of his plays have him sitting on a stack of 60 BBs or more which is not going to happen online or in faster tournaments.

For fast and/or online tournaments or you want more aggression in general read 'Poker Tournament Formula' by Arnold Snyder.

For tournament play I'd go with Harrington on Hold'Em

Cash game play - Super System is the obvious choice but I didn't think it was as good as some others out there.

David Sklanky - Theory of Poker is good too.

For tournaments Harrington on holdem is probably the best, although I have heard good thiongs about Phil Gordaons little green book. While HoH might not be specifically aimed at online tournaments, it preaches a somewhat tighter style and introduces pot odds, implied odds, gives indications of how stack ssize and position dictate what range of hands you should be playing etc.

I do have a some issues with it like the "probe bet" but in general it is definately one which a novice should read.

OP if you are competent with the points raised above I would then recommend just reading and posting in the strat threads both here and in the MTT threads on 2+2, and read the anthology as a must.

If it is for cash games, full ring (10 players), both live and online, I have heard that Harrington on cash games is good, (I have not read it tho). I have read Professional No Limit Holdem, which I thought was very good also. But again, I would read the anthology for micro and small stakes in 2+2 and Fees 6 max strategy book which you can get at www.ryanfees.com.

    Hope this helps.
