Is it a confidence game?

I'm not quite sure if this is the right place for this...

I am interested in the area of commentating / voiceovers and things like that but I'm not sure if I have the confidence for it. I have tried recording myself during a game (and am trying to get used to my own voice) but I lapse into silences or stumblings at times. Other times I have done it internally and can imagine exactly how I would like to sound but just can't get it to be the same.

I don't want to have a fake-enthusiasm and I am very interested and passionate about what I am speaking about but it doesn't seem quite right. I am happier with my voice because I have tried to listen to other commentators who do this and have heard a varied mix.

Is it a natural thing, do I just need practice, do I need to develop confidence? Would something like Toastmasters help?
    Thanks

I'd imagine that joining Toastmasters would be the best place to start.
