Long time reader of this and other forums this is my first post.Over the last number of years a group of golfers are playing in fundraising events in my area [Kildare].These are all genuine events for local GAA club,Lions Club Wheelchair assc etc but a group of players are winning 80% of these comps. These players with the exception of one are long distance members and would make Dick Turpin look honest with the handicaps they play off.I have contacted the GUI and was told nothing can be done unless their club do something, surely something can be done about this..

Well if their members in a club their scorecards should be reg'd after each round they play.

And if it's for charity does it really matter who wins?
    Or is their prizes aswell?

Their club should be notified. Some clubs will cut players on performance. If they are known to be regularly winning team events then they are cut. Quite rightly too.

Not only are they cheating but they're obviously low in moral fibre considering these are charity events.

There are still classics and the like being run by GAA clubs etc, who don't use the host computer system NOR return the cards to the individuals clubs. This is not supposed to happen but it does, and often. The bandit is alive and well, I've seen plenty of it as a former Hon.Sec & Captain, and organising classics for local charities.

Played in a charity 4 ball scramble and our team won . The golf club hosting the event in question insisted the cards be sent back to the relevant home clubs which I thought strange , but didnt bother me that much as I'm not running around the country winning these things every day !!!

There's nothing strange about that, that's what's SUPPOSED to happen. It is incumbent on every player who marks a card in either team or individual competition to return the card to his/her home club for scrutiny. Essentially this is down to the organising club to sort this, the GUI have been trying to sort this for years, bringing in changes and rulings. They've tightened up a bit on things, but if someone wants to cheat, they'll find a way.
