    Hi all,

I am heading to south africa (Capetown) in february 2009 for 2 weeks. I have been looking up price on various sites 900 is the cheapest I have come across so far. Just wondering if any of you have been before - what should I expect to pay for flights and whats the best sites/airlines? also if anyone has recommendations for hotels in capetown that would be much appreciated. thanks

Im sorry I can't help with flight prices but I am so jealous. South Africa/Cape town is on the top of my must see destinations. I so hope I will get there one day. Have you tried some of the travelsupermarket type sites? How late are you willing to wait before you book? I just booked my Cyrpus flights for travel 24th July and got prices down from nearly £500 to just over £300.

Call Slatterys and see what flights they are doing, their website doesn't have much up yet but they could just be waiting for a new schedule.

I flew with Iberian Air before and paid 650, but that was Dub - Milan - JHB - CPT. 22 hours each way :(

In January we flew direct Dub - CPT which was great. Cost 900 each but the direct flights were so worth it. I'll always go direct from now on, unless flights go up around 1200-1400.

Unfortunately, the direct DUB-CPT flights will not go ahead this Winter due to rising costs with the airline that provided the charter for Slattery's, LTU. So it'll be via somewhere for flights to South Africa this year!

I was in South Africa in May as part of my honeymoon. In Capetown we stayed in the Table Bay Hotel, expensive but excellent hotel and very centrally located. It's actually in the V&A Waterfront and you can walk round this area at night.

We hired a car for the whole time we were there but didn't use it that much in Capetown.

A big must is to drive down to the Cape of Good Hope, the scenery is just amazing, you can do this as a day trip from Capetown. Another tip is if you want to go to Robben Island, it's a good idea to book the tickets before you go.

Do a search for South Africa in this forum, there are already a good few threads with information that you'll probably find useful.

The V&A is a lovely area but the prices are quite a bit more than in the city. it only costs a euro or so in a taxi from the city to the waterfront. Its nice to be in around the city as well.

The Fountains hotel is a popular place to stay. it's a nice place with very helpful staff.

I rented a car while i was there but i can't remember the company. Think it was Europcar rental and it was based in the Holiday Inn in Cape Town.

So many great places to drive around CT. Head north up the Atlantic coast to Melkbosstrand and Bloubergstrand. There is also a fantastic drive you can make over to Hermanus which is SE of Cape Town.

You should also take a tour to the vinyards of Stellenbosch. In the Fountains Hotel they give you the name of tour guides that run trips to Stellenbosch.
