How cheap do they go

So I noticed the Nikon D40 I think it was is down to 450 in the local spectra shop, down from 499 and down from something higher than that before, I suppose it's as the newer models come out the older ones become cheaper, will this continue until I can pick one up for 50 Euro or do they get discontinued and you can't buy…

Normally, they discontinue models when they run out of stock, or reach a certain price.
