Buying my first Macbook

For the past number of years I've been threatening to buy a Mac but always end up getting a Windows machine, though I usually just install Linux straight away. Anyways after punching my keyboard a little too hard a week or so back my laptop no longer works and I've decided that it's time I bought a Mac seeing as I use my computer mainly for video editing and the odd bit of music editing so a Macbook is the obvious choice.

With that in mind I'm looking for a Macbook which won't break the bank. Atm I have my eye on the MacBook 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4G of ram. The price is 1235.86. Anyone any suggestions or recommendations? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don't buy the extra ram from Apple. Its too expensive. I used www.crucial.com. very good service. Easy to install too.

    €235 for a 2.4 MacBook? You sure that's right?

Now I think just a non Windows operating system should suffice.

I got my 2.1 Macbook delivered last week with 1GB Ram. Had 4Gb from Crucial dlivered Tuesday. When I got home had the new RAM installed in 5 minutes, and the MB flies. I was really trying to justify an MBP, but I'm delighted I saved my money with the MacBook. Its a great little machine, and the glossy screen is super, for me anyway. Didn't need another Superdrive or anything like that, the only extra thing I probably would have used on the MBP would be FW800.

I think the big difference is the screen resolution myself. Unless you are using FW800 a lot.

Hey, I'm also in the same boat! Looking to buy my first Mac laptop for college. I came across an ebay seller, The Cheetah Express, who ship macs from the US to europe. Prices very competive (~€1000 for a brand new 2.4ghz macbook). Anyone else bought from them?
