I've been looking at the three network coverage map and reflecting on places I've been and whether or not the have better coverage or not. I remember getting newsletters from other operators stating where they are improving coverage each month but it occurs to me that three are not actually expanding their 3g coverage anywher. I.e. it appears that they are sticking with what they have got and don't expand out.

I'm aware that they have doen a deal with O2 Esat on managing their network but it doesn't mention expansion. anyone know any different?

vodafone have nationwide coverage as far as im aware and when i was with 3(12 motnhs ago) if you were somewhere in ireland were they didnt have coverage you automatically changed over to vodafone network at no charge so its exactly the same as far as i can tell

AFAIK they are increasing site numbers from 750 to 850 by the end of the year, read that im the paper after they announced BT (not O2) were taking over from Nokia/Siemems looking after the network.

    sounds good, BUT:
3's big boast is their 3g services... But if you live/use a 3-phone outside their 3-video service zone, you get fairly limited services!!! Funnily, where I live has been bright red on 3's map for ages, yet there is no 3g, no video, most limited internet etc etc...hasn't changed at all! Ironically, the 3 shop(well, the franchise selling their stuff) in Castlebar has very patchy 3 reception ;) one corner of the shop is ok, you move 10 ft: nothing hahaha

there are no 3 franchises. There are 3 shops that are wholly owned by three and there is 3g, an irish company that existed before 3 came to ireland and sells several of the networks' products

I went on the train recently from dub to cork, and wasn't very impressed by the 3g coverage. It was on and off so many times, especially what I would call the main intercity route. Hope Irish rail take up that offer to install wifi along the network.

The amount of people that still mix this up is crazy!
