Has anyone heard any scuttlebug on release dates for the n96 with o2 here?

Nope, but 16GB of built-in space, MicroSDHC memory cards (up to 32 GB) and 5Mpix camera sounds pretty cool for me.. :)

I'd be really surprised if it made it on to any network here...even with a subsidy, you're probably looking at ~€400...

...And the rest. It's 925 quid on Expansys sim free.

I was going to get a N95 from Vodafone via work, it was only ~150€ two months ago but has now gone back up to over 350€.

So I don't think it's going to be available from 02 or Vodafone for a while yet, but 3 will probably stock it sooner.

Also none of the Irish providers are doing the N82 yet and it's been out for months.....

This is the worst country for getting new phones... I bit the bullet and bought an N78 SIM free from Expansys... the current selection is pure unadulterated crap. I was in the Baltics in April, and all the networks there had the N82 available for super cheap on contract...

    ehem,
the rtg vodafone n95/8 sold for euro 599.99!!! And it sold ok!!! O2's prepay n95 was even more expensive ;) walking through C'bar you see more people with N95's than any other flagship model of any brand "ever"... Given time, the n96 will be on every Irish network exc. Tesco...

as to the expansys price: they always exaggerate pre-release prices! the moment the phone's actually launched, that price will come down bigtime!

Going on the release time for the N95, this wont be the case, 3 didn't bring it for about 6 months after the others, although when they launched here about 3 years ago they said they would be the network with the newest and most up-to-date phones

o2 were very quick to bring it out on their network last year - i bought it in April sim-free and by early summer it was well and truly out for purchase on an o2 contract - i hope they are as quick with the N96!

I've quickly used the N96 and am not a big fan of the design. It seems clunker that the N95 and the buttons are awful. Although the N96 has a better feature set and is Symbian 9.2.

What is the battery life like?

Heard very much off the record that vodafone might be releasing it around October time.

Trustedreviews played with a prerelease N96.
    The review is fairly negative.

    Final Thoughts

The N96 feels a bit like a missed opportunity for Nokia. It has honed the design of the N95, true, including more memory (plus expandability), a slightly sleeker design and some additional features, such as internet radio and a DVB-H tuner. It's an incredibly capable multimedia phone, no doubt, but for one reason or another, it just doesn't seem a dramatic-enough upgrade to justify the sky-high prices being bandied around right now.

Had Nokia endowed the N96 with E71-like build, sleekness and battery life in addition to its innovative audio, video and GPS capabilities, I'd have joined the queue at my local mobile phone emporium. But as it is, it looks set to join its predecessor, the N95, in the the nearly but not quite there stakes.
