I'm no expert but I experienced the same thing and discovered it was down to faulty RAM. Try http://www.memtest.org/ ( the best option ) or if you have Vista, it has its own memory checker. Start/run; memtest.

Can you attach the memory dump here and I'll have a look?
    Should be in %SystemRoot%\Minidump

Test windows on your minimum of componants. No Gfx Card, no sound card, 1 stick of ram etc. If it still BSODs, change a stick of ram for another, assuming you have 2 sticks.

Process of elimination. Unless its the motherboard, or something completely different.

thanks the edge will do when I get a chance

as for that memtest site I didnt have a clue how to use- I dont have a floppy drive

but youre correct I have read faulty ram everywhere I look
Ive had the computer nay on 2 years so it only has popped up once or twice
but doesnt hinder me at all hasnt happened since but the odd time it happens out of the blue(sorry)
mostly when using antivirus-I run every thing at once when Im doing it

would this explain why the computer a while back became stupidly slow and cpu at 100% just running firefox a while back??
assumed it was just a firefox bug as it went away

could it just be that the ram has a loose connection?

to black knight I aint too up on my computers, any chance of a walk through guide??:o how do I run without gf, 1 stick ram
    other than yanking them out

I just yank em out. Theres nothing wrong with taking them out, just make sure your PC is off, plugged out, and discharge yourself (just touch it) on a kichen sink or a heater so you dont electrostatically kill your computer.

Id remove a stick of Ram first. Graphics will just be ugly running on onboard graphics.

If you say its blue screened like this once or twice before in the past 2 years, changing ram and graphics cards is probably pointless. You will be waiting forever to see any results, unless you have a situation where it always crashes when you do such a thing as scanning for viruses.

Clutching at straws here but if your computer was running really slow and at 100%, i might of been maxing out your memory. Page File usage in the task manager - performance tab.
Could be programs running in the background or a virus etc.

If your PC is running slowly, and the Page File usage is pretty close to your Memory installed on your PC (right click on my computer - Properties). Id recommend Ccleaner. Gets rid of any unnecessary crap on your PC, might free up some memory too.
