As you know i was up North yesterday and posted this shot in thread , i like the pic, but find the colours are a bit flat. Seems a problem with the 18 - 200 VR lens .
I was shooting at Apperature mode , maybe the meter works best on Manual .
I am thinking i will shoot from now in either M mode when i have time or P mode , and kick Apperature mode to touch.
    Metering was at Matrix.

    Here is the image again

    any thoughts , can't be my new D300 , i hope

There is wide dynamic range of the scene. So the exposure is set to get the best of the both worlds.
I really do think that the colour saturation was influenced by exposure. Exposure bracketing or histogram should give you some answers.

You may mix many things what are isn't in connection of this picture.
The Av (aperture) priority mode help you to controlling the depth of field.
Another important information you not given such as RAW mode shooted, which colorur space you set, what you set as colour temperature (auto, daylight etc..)
I couple of minutes and I place my fixed picture here

A, S, or P (or Auto or any of the novelty modes) will not make much of a difference to the saturation or white balance.

    It's retouching that is needed.

Your picture have a bit more green what need. It's possible you set the color space to Adobe RGB.

Baz, try not to delete pics from flickr and leave the link in thread... makes it confusing for those of us who come along later and can't see the original!

The choice of which Colour Space is only an issue if you are shooting jpeg. In RAW you can decide later which Colour Space you use & change it.

I was using Adobe to process as I thought that bigger was better but have switched back to sRGB after reading a few articles & listening to a couple of lectures on the subject.

sorry Evlen -- BTW my colour space is set to default which is sRGB , from reading manual should it not be set to Adobe RGB which offers a wider colour range ?

As i always do a small bit of post processing , and i set ps to adobe rgb .

    Cheers.

You should always try to use the same colour space in the camera and in PP.

For web usage, you need to use sRGB. Most web browsers will only read that colour space.

For printing, Adobe RGB may be used, but it depends on who is doing the printing.
