Anyone else buy one of these cards and have trouble with it crashing(Vista 64)? Its just freezing the screen so I'm not getting a chance to diagnose the problem? Anyone any advice on how to solve this? I've googled but just come across people in a similar situation but no solution. Note: There is a slight chance that the cause might be due to a SB X-Fi Extreme Gamer card but moving to old drivers on this to see if it makes a difference...

    Edited: Due to crap English!

Nope, playin Crysis on mine with most settings on high @ 1920x1200. Does run very hot tho, 75-80' idle. Vista 64 here as well. I did get artifacts once when in Crysis just after loading, but i reloaded it and it was fine, must've just been a driver glitch cos it run fine now.

What driver are you using? Have you used the latest one, 8.6 (8.4 ships with it on disk), Here
Edit: Also, Check the temp of your card, Use this, Gpuz

I'm currently running with the 8.6 hotfix drivers altough have experienced problems with 8.4 and also the 8.7 leaked ones. The card does seem to run quite hot though and I've been advised on the lotro forums that there is a problem with the fan speed.

The fix on the lotro link seems promising. My fan speed was set to max out at 18% by default. Will post back when I've tested in game...

Here you see an imediate drop in temperture with the fanspeed set at 65%(no load).

Computer sounds like a hoover though so I tried at 40%. Seemed to work sucessully for a while but crashed out after about 20 minutes.

Whats the ideal temperature I should be aiming for under load? Also is there a program that will output a logfile of temperatures so I can check to see what they were at just before the crash?

Have been running for a couple of hours now without crashing. I've switched to onboard sound rather then the soundcard so not too sure what was the cause of my problems. All seems well now anyway!

    Good,

I've set my fan @ 30% myself and it now idles at 55-60' which i'm a little happier with.

Gotta say, this gpu eats up Crysis, I've got most settings on high with only post processing, blur and objects set to medium at 1920x1200 and I'm getting very playable steady 30-35fps. Water & sound set to v high.

Hey guys how are you setting the fanspeed? I tried creating a profile and then editing the.xml file but it doesn't work.

edit... nvr mind found out you had to turn on overdrive.

Ya, then set it to a hotkey cos you gotta set that profile every time you boot. I've set at alt+f.

    Hmmm.. another crash yesterday.

Whats the ideal temperature people are aiming for under load and fanspeed that people are using?

Also is there a program that will output a log file showing temperatures so that I can check after the crash?

I told ya already, Rivatuner can, but not sure it supports the latest Ati driver, read the release notes. It only supports a limited number of Ati devices as its a Nvidia tool but it does work on some
Rivatuner is one the leading tweak utility available for NVIDIA GeForce and ATI Radeon based videocards.
In addition to complete NVIDIA hardware support, RivaTuner also provides limited support for display adapters based upon ATI RADEON 8500 and newer ATI graphics processors. All RivaTuner's features besides driver-level tuning options are also available on supported ATI hardware.

Edit: I'm running my fan on 30% BTW, but have another profile created for 35% in case we actually get a summer :D

Sorry, I thought you were implying that it wasn't compaitble with the new card. Am going to give it one more chance before I RMA it as I dont think the gpu is reaching a temperature that it should be crashing at.

One last question for you as well if you dont mind. I see that the gup-z tool reports 3 temperatures. Is it odd that the second one is nearly a full 10degrees higher the the others?

    Mine 2

I'd not be happy with it, I'd RMA it anyway just to be on the safe side

I have uninstalled the 8.7 driver(leaked) and also used driver sweeper before installing the hotfix version. I wont get a chance to do any gaming tonight but will give it one last chance tomorrow. Temps are ten degrees below yours so I definitly shouldn't be experiencing the issues that I have. Thanks for your asistance btw. Much appreciated...

    An update....

I swapped back to my old nvidia card yesterday and to my surprise was still suffering from crashes. I had upgraded my memory(to 8gb OCZ Reaper) so went about checking to see if this could be the problem. I went into the bios and the timings and voltage both of which the I had been set to auto were not being set at the correct values. I corrected these and seem to be running ok now although I do need to more time to test. I think the main issue had been the voltage which was being set at 1.85 instead of 2.1/2.2v.

    That would do it.

BTW, mind me asking, Why do you need 8Gb? Don't expect to ever be able to overclock wirth 8Gb

Mainly due to poor performance playing lotro. Sometimes with a large amount of players on the screen there would be lots of lag. And with running Vista64 the extra bit helps. Ram is a fairly cheap upgrade these days so installing 8gb isn't that expensive...

    I used this fix below

    http://techreport.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=60232&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a

dropped my idle temp from 75 down to 59 @ 35% fan speed

Has anyone had any problems with Vista and the LCD screen after installing Catalyst or the display drivers? On the DVI connection it has no sigal on boot. Im stuck with this CRT monitor until i can get a Fem to Male VGA cable(for my adapter).

There seems to be no fix for this. If i press F8 on startup 640x480 mode does not work.
