Why: Because you are earning money and should help your parents out with bills and stuff..give them a bit of a break!!!

reason being that i was living in their house and eating their food....and earning a wage....its a no brainer!

though in saying that my sister just started a job and as far as a I know isnt giving any money....

Looks like your gonna have to cough up.
But to be fair even a small amount would show you appreciate
what your parents have done for you.
Hand up nothing and no doubt you will be rubbed up for it.

Well my summer "job" is to mind my bro and so my Ma and Da pay me and then they give me more money if I'm heading out or whatever.

I never paid my parents when I had summer jobs. They never asked, I guess they were happy I was out earning money instead of lying about watching tv and they knew I didn't earn much!

However, as soon as I finished college and got a full time job I had to pay rent. I only lived at home for a few months after I got a full-time job but I did pay them without complaining, it's only fair after all.

I always gave a few quid when I was doing summer jobs. Usually I covered one of the bills (telephone/ESB/whatever).

ok well i don't but let me first say that I am not a selfish person for doing so, here are my reasons..

    1) if its a "matter of respect" I really doubt that money=respect, thus giving my parents money each week doesnt show i respect them at all and if respect is related to money i really feel that thats a bigger problem

2)its probably a bit cliche to say this but they really really dont need it at all, 50E a week to me is one night out.to them its merely nothing. they are not a charity case when they both have respectable job titles and 4 foreign holidays per year and 2 nice cars

    3) I presumed they paid the school fees, esb and food bills every week because they loved me??

    4) Respect is shown through offering help, support, obedience not money, which is what ive already said

    5) ....

Well it obviously depends on how much you are earning. If you're only getting 50 euro a week then you might as well keep it. If you're working full time over the summer and getting over 200 euro a week then it would be good to at least offer them some cash every month. When I was younger I worked full time hours plus overtime during the summers, so I had enough for going out each weekend and helping out with the bills. I don't think my parents would have taken cash off me if I couldn't have afforded to both go out and contribute to the bills.

If you're over 18 you should probably give something toward your room, washing or dinners.

If you're under 18 I would say it's up to your parents to look after you but you should try to leech off them less.

I don't contribute to the household however i have paid my way through college for four years. Does this count??

With part-time jobs I never did. I will with my first full time job as long as I'm still at home.

When I worked full time I gave them almost half my wage, but when I was earning 70 euro a week going to college I still had to give them half my wage :( incidentally, I'm another person with a younger sister who does nothing and doesn't pay a cent into the house! :P She gets 50 euro pocket money a week, so is better off not bothering getting a job since she ends up with more money than me and has her weekends free!

As soon as I started wroking I paid up at home, I think it's only fair and I believe that parents who don't take money off their kids aren't doing them any favours.

    i dont, am 17 and earning about €70 - €100 a week part time.
my parents don't ask me to give them money and i don't ask them for money anymore.
i buy all my own clothes, pay for nights out or if im eating out etc and don't ask for money off them unless i'm really stuck and i will pay them back as soon as possible.
I know i'm not contributing to the house and bills etc but since i've been working it has made a difference to them, they used to give me €20 and extras here and there aswell.

Gave some money when I started summer jobs and have also helped doing everyone's laundry, cooking and cleaning since I was 13.

I never did and wasn't expected to. Most of the money I made from summer jobs was saved so that I could get through college without needing to work all year.
