Fault with Panny plasma

I bought a Panasonic plasma TH-42PV71 online from Germany 14 months ago and it came with the standard 1-year pan-euro warranty.

However, it has now developed a fault - a vertical line of green/purple pixels running down the screen. I have done a bit of searching (on avforums mainly) and apparently a few other people have had the same issue recently (PX70 is the equivalent UK model) - seems to be an internal component failure that requires a full panel replacement.

I wonder what is my best way to get this sorted - contact Panasonic directly and demand a replacement even though I am 2 months outside warranty? I believe I am within my rights to do so - this TV should be good for 60000 hours of viewing - I reckon my one has seen at most 2500-3000 hours.

Could be another Xbox 360-type issue if all of this model have the same faulty component.
