Traditionally provincial rugby in SA would have been well supported, but in the last ten or so years the support has shifted to the Super 14 franchises and internationals. Tickets are quite pricey as well (relatively speaking) and people prefer to watch games at home on the tv. Back in the late 80s and early 90s playing for your province was the pinnacle of SA rugby. Now it's been relegated to almost club rugby level.
