Data Add Ons

Why does no irish operator have a reasonably attractive data add on? 3G phones are almost becoming the standard with new phones and there is definately an increased demand.

I suppose as usual we will have to wait for Meteor to launch their 3G service before we see o2 and vodafone offer any kind of a reasonable data add on. When do Meteor launch their 3G service is there an official date?

O2 and Vodafone offer 5Gb packages as addons for HSDPA access for around €25/month (basically, the broadband package is what it is).

    O2 is 250meg for 7.50eur, 1GB for 15eur, 10GB (unlimited but fair usage) for 30eur.
    On billpay only.

I was looking on O2 to see if they offer any data packages for PAYG but they don't seem to, is this right?

Ye, its a bit of a sham. The question was asked on the o2 forum but wasn't given answer of to when or if they even would be bringing it out! I think it will only be a matter of time.

If you wanted to take up their offer eg. €7.50 for 250MB you could change to a cheap clearSIM plan so just a 30day notice to discontinue it.

There still a bit of a rip off to be honest. 250MB is nothing even for casual use and i don't really feel like paying an extra €15 on top of my bill phone for a bit of browsing. 3's addon of €9.99 for 1gig seems the best deal to be honest.

I'm still hopeful that when Meteor bring out their 3G service the likes of O2 and vodafone will coincedently become more competitive.

Vodafone now have a 1GB ISP promo for €8.25 (ex vat). Not sure if its available to payg customers. Its a lot better than the previous 25mb/€15 and it allows you to connect to non web sites as well.
