How do you make a gps kind of tracking device?

You put one part of it somewhere and see where it is on maps(or something else-laptop,lcd screen, etc)

What is required? How hard is it?

You can buy complete tracking devices, the GPS sends the location data to a mobile phone or embedded communications device and the data is sent via GPRS to you or a monitoring service.

Hmmm. I was thinking of making it a summer project. Not to expensive.
    How expensive are they?

At the risk of stating the bleeding obvious, why not just type 'gps tracking' into Google and see what you get.

This thread is part of a category called 'consumer electronics' meaning it's about gadgets that you buy, not ones that you build at home.

Hmmm, thats a good point. Thanks for that.

I couldn't find a place suitable to put it so I decided to put it in GPS
